Just purchased a 2006 Titanium Ed. Cayenne S!!
I'm a little nervious with the reliabiltiy issues some of the earlier Cayennes have and was primarily thinking of a used X5 4.4i sport, but we looked at a 2006 today and we made a great deal on a brand new one (only 2-3 '06 S's left at the dealer), which offsets any reliability concerns, at least during the warranty period...
Seemed to ride harder than the 2006 4.4i sport and doesn't seem to be put togeher quite as well (for example not as solid as a clunk when closing the doors), but my memory could be wrong as I didn't drive the two back to back (several months actually).
I definitely didn't go to the dealer expecting to buy anything today...Can't wait to pick it up!

Sure hope you got a SMOKIN' deal as they are already selling 08's and the car is instantly 2 years old when you drive away with it.
Congrats on the purchase

I realize there was no 2007. The problem is that the **** was released as a 2006 and regardless that no 07 was made, it instantly becomes 2 years old with the 08's on the lot.
However, with that said, the **** is an awesome deal right now if stuff like model year doesn't bother you. Personally, I could care less and if I didn't have 1 year left on my current Pepper lease I would have picked one up. You'd be crazy to pay MSRP for an 08 when you can get 15K of a ****. Well done on the discount!

The fact that it is the older year/body style doesn't bother me- as long as the warranty is there for 4 years/50K...it's essentially a new V8 porsche with a 20%+ discount

Congrats Andrew,
We picked up an 'end of model' Cayenne Tit Edition as well. The car has been simply wonderful through 2000+ miles w/o a glitch. I truly enjoy driving it although it is my wife's daily driver.

Thanks everyone! I'm used to hanging out in the 911/964 section, but will be in this section a lot more now!
Coochas- I'm in the same boat- the car is primarily for my wife- she needed a bigger car (the 325xi is a little small now with the baby- and my mother-in-law will probaby purchase the 325 from us as her car is getting old). I'll be driving it on the weekends though!

You guys did well by picking up the Titanium Edition. These cars are very nicely packaged, and you get the options virtually for free with the discount. The facelift version actually doesn't have many of the cool features found in your car. If you plan to use your car, don't worry about the model year. The new version will drop in value in due time. At least you have a $14K head start in savings.

I don't get the 2-year-old argument... At this time next year won't they still be selling 08s with the 09s coming around in the late-summer/fall of 2008? Just the same way that an 05 bought last year at this time is still just 2 years old and not 3 because Porsche decided to release an "08" 6-months+ ahead of most carmakers.
On the other side, these new 08s will appear to be "younger" for longer, but with their in-service dates being early- to mid-07 their warranties are still going to expire in 2011 - 4 years from now but 3 years from "08"...

Not sure what part you don't get. PCNA held the 2006 model year for as long as they were allowed to legally (end of 2006 calendar year) even while everybody else was selling 2007 models for many months and then early release the 2008 in March 07. While you count 1 year or whatever it is you count, no matter how you slice it the car is 2 years old in the car world b/c PCAN released a 2008. Personally, I think they should have released the **** as a 2007 and as the ONLY Cayenne offered and did that with a short run as they already did. In all reality it is a 2007 but it is handicapped as far as resale numbers as a 2006 being labeled as such.
Regardless, if you like the package, then the **** is a fantastic pickup with discount of 15K+ available right now. Heck, there is a Turbo at one of my local dealers that already offered it at 25K off sticker. They can't move 'em right now.

Yeah, I get the math, but won't it be the same next April as the 08 models will still be current inventory? I understand how it may affect their value now, but once the model years get back to normal what's the big deal? That is unless PCNA calls the 2010 update a 2012 model... :-) Whatever.

I think you are missing the forest for the trees. It has NOTHING to do with a car released right now that is an 08, but rather a car that was purchased during an 07 model year as an 06.
And as you say, when the model years get back to normal "what the big deal?" Well, the big deal is exactly what has already been discussed ad nauseum. I'll give you a quick example of what model year does to values. For example, the GT3 was released here as an 04 model year. Then, the left over GT3's that were released at the end of the run PAG/PCNA released the remaining cars at the factory as 2005 model year cars (less than 100). Values? THe 2005 holds a slight premium over the 2004 even though the cars are IDENTICAL and produced in the same run......same as the current **** but they didn't get the +1 model year bump.
Obviously you either (a) don't seem to get it; or (b) enjoy playing devil's advocate. Either way, no biggie. This was not an issue that I thought would have to get debated once again.
Andrew....congrats once again! Enjoy that **** in good health
