Default Buying Used Turbo: '04 vs '05

Hi all,

What are the benefits of purchasing a CPO'd '05 Cayenne Turbo over an '04? I've been looking for an '05, namely for the DVD-based nav system, but can't seem to find one with the options I want. But then the '04 is available (with everything I want) for $10k less. For this difference, I could replace the CD-based nav system, right?

Should I go with the '04 and swap out the nav? Or, aside from mileage, are there other benefits to going with the '05?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Dave

I am sure this have been covered, but there are minor tweeks to the 05' vs the 04', thought the 04' turbo's seem to fair better than the 04' non turbos. I think with any car/porsche, you should really try and get the latest model your budget will allow. I bought an 05' turbo and its been fine, apart from burning a ton of oil. What option are you looking for, as most turbo's come with "must have" options.

I bought a CPO'd 2004 CTT last month. I wouldn't touch one with an early build date or that wasn't Porsche certified. Mine has a 1/04 build date with an 11/04 in-service date (so extended warranty runs until 11/2010). I'm not sure what the cutoff is for "early", but OZR posted 7/03 as a cuttoff date I believe. So far I'm very happy, but it has only been a month. My deciding factor was that for the cost of a new, loaded CS, I could get a loaded 2004 CTT with even more toys and all that HP. Good luck.

I ended up choosing between a new 04 and 05. I was like you, wanting the DVD nav, although the 04 had all the options I wanted. I ended up with the 04 - the dealer ended up certifying it, even as a new car. In real world use, I could care less whether the nav is CD or DVD - I don't use it much, and hardly ever use the in dash CD player (in fact, I've never even used the CD changer). With the ipod and Sirius satellite radio, I keep the nav CD in all the time. When I've used the nav, it was adequate.
