I've got hold of a map DVD (for Europe, dated 08.2005) and the PCM upgrade CDs. The process to upgrade the PCM should be to put the CDs in the PCM front loader and the upgrade should start. However, nothing happens when I load the CDs.

Anyone know if there are additional steps I need to follow to upgrade the PCM (I'm currently on PCM2.1A)?

The TSB is a bit more involved than what you described and the discs you have may be looking for PCM 2.1B.

what year is the car? does it have factory pcm and does it currenty have nav?

The car is 2004 but was upgraded to the 2005 spec from the factory. It has DVD based satnav and my PCM version is 2.1 (not 2.1A or 2.1B, just straight 2.1)

2005 pcm has a nav drive under the pass seat you need to put the dics in there not in the dash

i will say when i got the US version upgrade, it didn't come with a manual. of course, it also said "can only be installed by dealer", but after much scratching of head and grunting noises, i figured out the correct order was to put the dvd in the drive under the pass seat, wait for the error message and then put the cd into the head unit in the pcm. follow the instructions on the screen, wait for the the loads to complete (amazingly slow, 8088 processors, perhaps?) and you are in biz.
