Default I now have a 4 cylinder S

Check engine light, misfires, sounds and runs like a 60's 4. Plenty of vibration. I already had new coils and plugs last yr, I wonder if itc's prediction is true, i.e. replace bad parts with bad parts and what do you got...bad parts.

I dont drink the purple stuff but, my am I thirsty right now.

Thanks Lewis for yet another crystal ball prediction coming true. I am sure Peter is doing this because he is trying to make you look good.

As I've said before, I don't make up the news, I only report it.

Remember the 'old days', the honeymoon phase, when everyone thought the Cayenne was the be all/end all, the defenders of the Cayenne faithful were running around.......I was the bastard child by trying to point out that there is a dark side to these early vehicles and business practices.

I don't wish Cayenne problems on anyone....well, maybe a FEW select indviduals

Since you've got a CEL, diagnosis should be a piece of cake.

It may be the first time that its been useful. They have never been able to get anything from the system before even tho they changed the various control boxes multiple times, so much that I believe I am really driving a jigsaw puzzle where the edges had to be filed to make them work AND they changed the transmission all without any help from the tester.

Well, this is more extreme than what I had with the cardan shaft.. which LTC is happy to report was supposedly replaced early on with the same defect design... FYI - while I didn't get the CE light nor noticable misfires, my tech said that eventually I would have gotten these problems... he said some fail right away while others take time.. seems you got a "quickie" and I got a "slowie".. Navy guys last longer!! so that is my guess.. are you headed to the dealer??

I'd just drink the adult additive "straight" and skip the purple moustache!

Peter and Lewis in the same sentence.. that's a forum fault Mr. Moderator.. ban yourself for some period from the "misfit" forum (as Lewis apparently wants to call us Cayenne posters)

Ok first dealer report. PIWIS is giving a CAM VARIO error. They have never seen that one and are now following the extensive test and evaluation instructions to see if they can home in on it.

It was not the plugs or coils, they checked out perfectly.

That is not good news.

FWIW, I just replaced the VarioCam assembly in the wife's 968Cab (lower chain guides were worn, so I just decided to replace the whole assembly).
The part was $1800, flown in from Germany. Upon replacement, the car would not idle very well, very rough idle, hard to not stall when letting out the clutch. Turns out the new VarioCam solenoid was defective; once actuated (electrically), it would extend out, thus varying the timing, but would not retract back, thus leaving the timing out in the weeds....

What is likely happened is that the VarioCam (electrical solenoid in charge of hydraulic (oil) timing adjust) is malfunctioning, thus sending your timing off to full advance, say 15deg.

Maybe it's just the solenoid and you can replace it rather than the whole assembly.

And of course, you're naked right?

It could be many other things, based on very limited info, it's just my 'best guess'.

As of Friday night they were still diagnosing. I could not honestly give an opinion as to the advance or retardation of the timing, I would say that I have 4 great cylinders and 4 that were not firing.

I could manouver but it was struggling. If I floored it not much happened, I had to basically take it easy until I got to the shop.

OK update

They are now saying that 1 coil was actually bad and that the vibration I had was from a busted engine mount which is ordered for tomorrow.

I was not able to get the codes.

ugh !
