Thumbs up Nav-TV's iPod adapter

Nav-TV's iPod direct connect- finally the way that my iPod should have sounded in my car from day 1.

Not difficult to install, and pretty reasonable interface controls on the factory screen.
It uses the trademarked iPod connector cable from any iPod to a Cat-5 end, which plugs into the back of the "brainbox" -the small Nav-TV unit. There is also a power connector to the Nav-TV unit, which in turn charges your iPod. The third connector to the Nav-TV unit is the M.O.S.T. interface cable.

You can display and search by somg, artist, playlist etc.

cons: I haven't been able to access contacts, or calenders, pictures, or other
stored info. and I am pretty sure this is not accessible anyway (too
bad).
Can't scroll effortlessly through your entire iPod's content quickly like on
the iPod with the click wheel.
iPod cannot be controlled via its own buttons, once synched with the
head unit just displays "Nav-TV".
The central Steering wheel dash display doesn't show any valuable info.

Most controls have to be entered from the head unit, all with the dial **** on the lower right, but then after a selection, the steering wheel can control track to track jump, and of course volume, mute, and changing sources (FM, AM, CD in the dash, and iPod)

Sounds superb and worth the $$ 800.00 plus tax ad in $35 for a house call.
There is no readable manual as of yet but the rep at Nav-TV says that he was adding a few finishing touches to a final draft, so one should be coming down the pipeline soon.

Anyone in Chicago should call SOUNDz Plus @ 630-393-3333 and ask for Marty. He will hook you up.

Kooser,
Nice work! Did you happen to take any photos of the install? Where does the brain box sit once installed? Where do you have your IPod port/hookup?

Glad to hear you are happy with the product!

Last question, are you an '04 or '05 model? I see on the NAV-TV website it states that if you have an '04 the PCM unit needs to be sent in for mods?!? Any ideas?

I have an '04
Unfortunately no install photos.
My iPod sits in the glove box with about 18" of cable slack.
A hole was drilled into the side of the glovebox and a rubber gromet seals it off around the cable for a clean look.

As for the "mod" to the head unit, that is only for making your DVD player play and display DVD movies and that is entirely independent of the iPod connection.

The box sits above the head unit within the dash without a problem.

Worth the $$ for me because now I can finally enjoy my music collection with crisp and bangin' sound. I was never one for factory systems, but I must say that the stock system sounds pretty decent.

Kooser,
Could you post some photos of the finished install? If you could also post some photos of the display so that we can see what the control interface looks like?? That would be much appreciated!!

A web page should open with pictures that you could view in a slideshow format or individually, along with a music selection at the end.
Not sure why it wasn't working, it should be now.

I know that everyone's been focused on hooking it up to PCM. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but does anyone know of an approach that would work with the regular CD player?

You are free to board here as long as you are not carrying any liquids or hair gel . And as far as I know there is no other work around except unplugging the CD changer and using its connection port.

This unit will work on CD only - NON NAV radio 's

You will have a limited amount of control .. un sure exactly of how limited - Ive only done this system on the NAV radios -

You will loose the CD Changer- as Kooser said ..

Otherwise - it should work ..

Steve .. hows things ?

Hey Marty,
I find myself now never even listening to Sat radio or regular radio anymore!

Thanks VinnyC. I still need to get the car on the dyno and load those results on my site as well as some good sound clips of before and after exhaust changes, and a sound clip of the exhaust sound from in the cabin on full acceleration.

I am still waiting on the air intakes....any day now, then off to the Dyno @ The Porsche Exchange.

Mr Boothe has also been kind enough to start work on the no-turn center caps jewels of his. http://www.boothedesign.com/
