Question Where's MadFox

When we last left our hero, he was locked in mortal combat against the evil Cardan Shaft.
He hasn't been heard from much since......

Is he driving around in a 997S Cab?
Is he lost, his never to be updated CDROM NAV system helpless and unable to bring him home?

Tune in again next week for the next episode of 'As the Pig Turns'.

This forum is about as exciting as watching laundry dry on a line.
Every other forum is more active than this place.......WTF?

Come on folks, get with the programme.

Now this must be a pig on a spit, not in the ground. Have you got BBQ recipe, we wouldn't want the pig to burn

The Cardan Shaft-ed me and it was in an evil way....... But, alas with the dealer's help, I was able to get a "comp" replacement even though I'm now past 70,000 miles. I haven't been heard from because I have been taking the S throughout the southeast over the holiday and returning young college stud muffins back to the place where they study (cough, choke) and stay focused on the future..............

Peter may have lost that deal... but if (big "if" PETER, if you're reading) it happens it'll be due to the GM at my dealership being a "top shelf" customer oriented guy who is swimming upstream against the bad customer service out of PCNA.

NO.. I was lost but now I'm found.. was blind but now I see...... see that PAG's NAV is functional but non-upgradeable...

Have to admit my Pig treated me well on 700 mile trip to/from college boy's dorm.. 19.8 MPG at average of 71 (that includes going through Atlanta where at times we were going 5mph or stopped. Also the PIG saved me by avoiding an 8 car pile-up by adeptly steering into the median and around it.. the low point of the trip however was seeing a Lifeflite copter land on the interstate (all traffic was stopped for 5 minutes) Hope the poor soul survived (one car accident off the interstate into large number of trees)....

In the interest of giving LTC something to read while he's waiting on his meds, and having seen so many of these complaints/references about the CDROM NAV, I finally have to speak up - not in defense of PCNA or Navtech - but just to point out that these types of problems are not unique to Porsche. Of my various previous vehicles with Nav systems, the LEAST of these types of problems I've had is with my wife's current Lexus, for which the DVD update is two years late and one year past the time at which it was "absolutely, positively" guaranteed to be available.

Probably the worst was my old ML, which I bought with the old CD-ROM system, with the screen unit mounted on the dash. It was barely better than a "Hertz Neverlost" (or should it be EverLost?) system to begin with, but, when less than 5 years old and (depending on how one read the fine print) still covered by the extended warranty I wisely purchased, it crumped completely. But here's the hilarious part - MB said they couldn't get replacement parts anymore. Well, okay, then they'd replace it with an updated version, right? Wrong! They'd be happy to put in the new version of the Nav for free, but, of course it was now incorporated into the new version of the PCM, for which I would have to pay thousands of dollars. No negotiation, no goodwill, no partial credit so I could go out and buy my own aftermarket version, no nothing. I finally just went out and bought myself a Kenwood DVD unit, which works better and has a nicer screen than any OEM system I've ever seen, - and has regular Navtech updates.

On the bright side, for the vengeful among you, and much to the amusement of those folks in the Lowe's parking lot who watched me try to fit a small load of lumber into the loaner C230, my ML extended warranty ended up costing MB at least 10 times what I paid for it, for other repairs that they couldn't deny. On the even brighter side, my experience with that vehicle has made it so that I don't think I will ever buy a new model within the first couple of years of production. This seems to have paid off when I waited for the CTT to get into the '05 run. Just hope that buying one of the early PK versions doesn't come back to haunt me. So far, so good.
