I just got the BrakePad workshop error msg on my CS at about 51,000 miles. My tech told me to drive as little as possible so i dont get into grinding the rotors. In reality.. how many miles can i drive before this hapens?
I cant get into replace teh pads for another 2 weeks and dont want to get myself into deeper sh*t.
gracias

It is almost certain that the brake service will include pads, rotors and wear sensors. The rotors are permitted only a small amount of wear before they beome too thin.
Also, if the vehicle is two years old, then the brake fluid should be changed too.

You certainly have a couple of weeks left until you start to grind your rotors. The warning sensors are typically around the half way point of the material. That said, if you do hear grinding noises, get it in ASAP.
If they suggest rotors ($$$$) ask them what the minimum thickness is and have them show you what yours are at with a caliper. They always want to do rotors when they do pads. Rotors often unnecessarily. Both are easy DIY's but if you have to take it in, just be smart and don't do the rotors if not necessary.

Are the pads included in the warranty? How about the rotors? I'm at 42k and just got the warning this morning. Good to know I have a buffer to get the car into the shop.

My workshop msg just came on this week at 33k miles. I plan on changing them myself. I've always done the brakes on all my cars. My pads and new sensors are on order at my local dealer. Has anyone done the brake job? Any advice? Thanks

Yes, I did mine a few months ago, straight forward, 1 bolt and a spring to remove. Make sure you buy a set of sensors as they will break when you remove them.
The 3 pistons are easy, get one in, and hold with a piece of wood, then use the pads to squeeze the other 2 in.
about 45 minutes.
Make sure you route the sensor cable over the bolt not under

I got them off ebay but could have got them for the same prices from SunsetPorsche I am told.
I did not change the rotors although I have them ready when needed.

As a point of reference on my BMWs, according to the manual, the brake pad wear sensor comes on with 6mm thickness remaining on the pads--approx 1000 miles +/- unless you are on a track. I just had wifey's 3-series into the dealer for this job, and although not usually covered as a "normal wear" item, they replaced both pads AND rotors....all under warranty!
Sure hope the local P-dealer is as forgiving when I need the same job on the Pepper...
