Hi guys..
I heard that by updating PCM (CS 2005) my cd player can read mp3 cds .. is that statment right?

It depends on the month of build, they changed the hardware in May 05.

Mudman - please expound on this.

I recently had the PCM in my '04 Cayenne S replaced with a new unit. The replacement units has the SIM slot, buttons for phone, and other differences from the original unit.

I've been hoping for a software upgrade to the PCM to enable MP3 decoding. Are you implying that one is available?

EDIT - I should add that although the replacement PCM unit supports the DVD drive for the NAV dics (it always asks me to insert the DVD), being an 04 Cayenne S, there is no DVD and I just insert a CD into the PCM drive.

There are MY 05 type A and type B units, the difference is in the firmware, to my knowledge there is no software load for type A units to make it play MP3's.

How do I determine which version I have - MAIN+TRIP perhaps?

If I do have version B, and as previously stated do not have the DVD drive, am I still able to get this update? What would I ask the good folks at Don Rosen Imports for?

The PCM2.1 update appears to be more to do with the operating system.

I find nothing about converting to MP3 playback on 05 models

The PCM mp3 decoding is done by hardware and not by software as ie. in your pc by winamp or whatever. Of course there is software needed to display the id3 info on the display but thats another story. Therefore you either have a mp3 capable pcm or not.

The news I was dreading to hear... Was really hoping that the MP3 decoding was implemented through software.
