Fuel Gauge

Recognizing that tank is 26.4 gallons I am wondering why I'm only getting 22.9 or so gallons in the tank from fuel gauge being empty. Should I be waiting for the indicator to go well below empty? Seems I'm only getting 13-14 miles per gallon so I'd rather not fill up every 300 miles. Any advice would be welcomed.

You are probably nowhere near the empty area. The key is that you are only filling 23 gallons when you fill up. That is actually much safer that trying to take it empty EVERY time. If you were to get to completely empty you run the risk of damaging your injectors.

Mine does the same thing. Running dry is probably not good for the fuel pump too.
What you neglected to mention is that the machine mocks me by stating, after a fill-up, that the distance to empty is 411 miles.
FYI, I don't like to be mocked, it makes me angry.

I never understood the fuel filter or injector clogging thing. Where is the gas pick up? If you have trash in the tank, wouldn't you pick it up at any time if the pickup is on the bottom of the tank and does not move? Unless the trash you are concerned about is the floating type.

When you are ready to grab the marble from my hand you will realize that the fuel pump is cooled by the fluid flow and running dry eliminates the flow. That may not Kill Bill, but it not good for the fuel pump.
