Jaro,

I had no indication at all... no rough idle, no check engine codes, no nothing. The mechanic says that the metal part of the spark plug clip and the plastic parts were made with too tight a tolerence, such that when the metal heats and expands it cracks the plastic around it. He said that every other Cayenne he looks at has cracked coils.

It's worth checking out if your gas mileage is low. Mine was running around 16 - 16.5mpg on the highway and I now consistantly get 18 mpg or better!

I did the navigation thing, I reset it and it came out 9.7mpg, omg, I drive it so nicely, let the car roll, and I am considered light (not fat). What's wrong with it... I never exceed 2500rpm

well, if the coil is a VW parts then we know that there were some serious ssues with the quality...and if what Mike says is true then we should all go to the dealers and have our coils inspected....I will do it for sure..

I noticed more hesitation during rain and/or periods of high humidity... tech said that made sense... mine were very small cracks.. but if Michael is "on to something" then it would probably be reasonable to have that checked by everyone.

DEETZ. Are you a base, S, or Turbo? regardless, you have fuel consumption issues if you're always under 2500 rpms... WAIT.. why the heck are you under 2500 rpm's? I know in my case, while I'm pretty conservative the one really FUN part of the Cayenne is accelleration in traffic and/on curves.. this baby is as fast as just about anything (S/Turbo) when you're at least doing 20 mph or so.. when challenged by some MB/BMW types, it is always fun to crank it over to manual and run it out and have them in the rear view mirror<@ (my forum substitute for a exclamation point). So, DEETZ get the engine checked, get the mileage improved and then enjoy the higher RPM's<@

I have been getting better than 20 MPG on my Cayenne 6- cyl, 6-speed manual transmission in combined city and higway driving. I just love this car more everyday.

I am only getting 14-15mpg around town with my V6 Tip (first two tankfuls during the break-in period.) I am hoping that once everything seats itself and the engine is broken in, that digure will increase. Am I living a pipedream? Have others experienced better mpg after break-in (~2000 miles)?

With all cars (especially German marques), a good rule of thumb for everyday driving is to upshift at ~3000 rpm, and NEVER let the engine speed drop below 2000 rpm. You V8 owners can certainly get away with letting the engine speed drop below 2000 due to the prodigious torque of your engines, but if you go too low, then the engine may actually use more gas because it is lugging (has to work harder to provide power).

BTW, it's really a pain in the a&& to keep the V6 below 4200 rpm as recommended by Porsche during break-in. I've only exceeded that threshold twice since I've had the car (accidentally, while learning how to manually shift the Tiptronic). This thing is hugely more fun than my X5 was, and I've been a strictly BMW aficionado for 20+ years...<@

Just got back from soccer match about 90 miles away.. for grin/giggles.. drove at 2200 rpm in my S which is about 63-65 mph for as painfully long as I could (about 30 minutes). I reset the mpg calculator (relatively flat stretch of interstate).. calculated at little over 22 mpg. So, if you really want to save gas slow to sub-light speeds.... NO, I couldn't bring myself to try 55 mph.. besides where I'm at.. you get blown of the road if you're not at 75.

Do you think maybe your rims size is not what the PCM is expecting??? You can hit a button on the PCM that will auto calculate the size of the rims and re-calibrate the compter.

Complain of heistation... that was the complaint that led the dealership to check mine. I would also suggest mabe a different dealership... they should be more cooperative than that!
