For clarification only, the LR3 is a Disco not a truly new vehicle, they just could not get any finance company in the US to give good lease rates on anything called Discovery, there were so bad

That's correct but they made significant changes from the Disco2 to the LR3.

I find that sort of feedback on day-to-day living with the thing very useful. THX!

Maybe it's something to do with old-school German companies trying to get into the SUV market (how are the Beemers doing). I've owned a number of Mercedes and I was SOOO dissapointed with the quality and reliability of the ML that we sold it PDQ. Now, the thing was unstopable. Used it in loose sand, and 12" of fresh powder on the steep hill where I used to live. Before anyone judges.. I've owned an FJ40, several other 4x4s with mega-mods and I've nearly killed myself rolling one down a mountain... so.. I do know a little about bit about off-road performance, and the ML did well in those situations I used it in (I never went off-roading with it.. come on.. it's a stationwagon with a tall roof.. ). OOPS! Sorry, heading off on tangents.

I'm just wondering why the SUV's from some of the German manufactures that make plenty fine cars, seem to have a number of issues.

Perhaps because the last German off road vehicle was the Gelandewagen, not the new POS 65% VW parts/85% VW labor assembled Cayenne.

The original Gwagen was a true German SUV.

Pretty much the equivalent of an Fseries HD pickup truck......beat it to death and it just keeps on going.
