Marking up your pic is too much of a challenge Michael but if you look at the shot marked PCM Rear you'll see a black connector bottom right. This has 3 wires coming out of it. A thick brown one which is ground, a red/yellow one which is 12 volts constant and a white one which is 12 volts when the PCM is powered on. The white one can only support a small current drain so I spliced a wire into this one and took it to to the coil of a small 12 volt relay (relay switch contacts need to be minimum 2 amp rated and coil resistance needs to be at least 500 ohms to keep the current drain low) . I then took another splice from the red/yellow wire and wired this through an in-line 2 amp fuse to the switched contacts of the relay. The switched output of relay then goes to the 12 volt power input of the FM modulator and whatever else you want to control from the PCM unit (e.g. iPod, XM radio or whatever). Voila, when the PCM unit comes on, so does the FM modulator and other audio device. Neat huh?
Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed description Robin, I will mark a picture up with the details. Isn't it great when you can apply all the knowledge gained on Morris 1100's to a Porsche...haha

actually a 1965 Triumph Vitesse in my case! Of course what I really want is a way to get the audio directly into the PCM but that means coming up with a digital/fiber optic solution. Bugs me that Porsche make it so hard for us :-(

I finally installed my RF modulator for XM radio and it was a breeze. Just in case anybody needs the cables for such an install they are available from www.crutchfield.com. The part numbers you will need are as follows:
12040EU10
12040EU20
The price is 19.99 each, and they fit perfectly.

I've had mixed results with the itrip. It definitely has an issue with some degree of static/hum. It also has an up/down quality to the reception. However, I find that the dynamic range with the itrip is much better than with the Sirius/FM modulator. Both are definitely a compromise. Still waiting for the Dension solution - haven't the 2 months they keep telling us about already up?

Your confusing an FM Transmitter (airwaves) with a Modulator (hardwired into antenna)
The Denison solution is now 18months late by the way, that was the intitial promise

Fm modulators SUK! Had mine ripped out.
I just had my Denison installed Friday and love it. Had some issue with my installers, not the Dension and Eric from Bumperplugs.com was awesome. Great support!!! I recommend Denison and ordering from Bumperplugs.
