Default Keyless Entry question

Hi Everyone,

I'm doing a sanity check. If you have the keyless entry option I would appreciate a response.

It is my belief that the keyless entry option should allow you to walk up to any door and unlock/open the door by simply pulling on the handle. At least I'm pretty sure that's the way it used to work on my car until recently.

A few weeks ago I got new-style replacement key fobs from the dealer under warranty. At that time the rear door handles stopped working in keyless mode. I double-checked the menu on the multi-function display and the Door mode is indeed set to "All". One theory is that the firmware got updated when the key fobs were replaced, and this introduced a bug.

I complained to the dealer but they could not find what was wrong so they asked me to come back when the regional Porsche tech rep was in town. He tested it and agreed this is unexpected behavior. However we both observed the same behavior on another Cayenne. But why would they put the keyless sensors on the rear door handles if they aren't supposed to unlock the door? Also, I swear this was not the way the rear locks behaved before I had the key fobs replaced (but maybe I am having a middle-age moment).

For the record this is not a complaint against the Porsche tech rep. He was very polite, spent time characterizing the problem, and seemed as confused as I was by the behavior. He promised to make an inquiry to Porsche engineering.

So for those of you who have keyless entry: Do your rear door handles unlock/open the door in keyless mode?
