Steamed-up headlamps
KN went in in March for a couple of bits and they had to order a seat memory switch. Whilst it was there, apparantly they replaced the glass but I wasn't aware of this (they never told me). So when it was booked in for yesterday I asked them to look at the lights (not knowing that they already had). Just had the phone call saying that they don't do the little bags anymore and that because they had already tried to fix it once, they wouldn't do it again. And, they don't consider it to be problem anyway!

The first TSB regarding headlight condensation was to install desicant bags...obviously once they are saturated, they no longer work and would require replacement.
The latest TSB, which many, many member of this forum have had done, is to install a headlight "vent kit", similar to the 964 distributor vent kit of the early 90's, which seems to work much better.
Call your dealer and tell them to install the latest TSB headlight vent kit. IIRC, it is something like an hour or two job for both headlights.

Had the TSB done and no problems since. If you're in England, you probably really need that done! Try another dealer... anyway, it's all because you drive on the wrong side of the road

Just had the vent kit installed and it works perfectly. They had it marked down as 1.5 hours, although I don't think it took that long to complete. Interesting thing was they gave me their internal copy by accident initially which has all the N/C marks in $ figures they charge back to Porsche. Ouch, they really rake it in with all these recalls build back to PCNA. Don't let them give you a hard time over it. The reason they don't want to do it again is because this time they have to foot the bill and can't charge Porsche for it.

The dealership does not get paid 1.5 hours for this service action. There are two different labor times for this, 40 TU (24 minutes) for the retrofit and 60 TU (36 minutes) for the retrofit and drying out the headlights with a heatgun. They get either or depending on whether or not the headlights have condensation in them at the time of the retrofit.
If they are still talking about dessicant bags they need to get with the times as those were done away with at the introduction of the W424 service action which was in September I believe.
