Question First Service

I recently purchased an 04 CT with 15k miles on it. The out of state dealer that did the inspection told me the first service need to be done now. I thought he was just trying to do the service work himself but I called my local dealer anyhow and they said no, 20k miles and it's only an oil change. Shouldn't they be checking for software upgrades? Yesterday the "Service Now" message came on with almost 16k miles on it. Why would it come on now?

TSB's are only performed if their is a recall associated with them or if you complain about something that has a TSB associated with it. I believe the TSB for the tranny shift points is automatic for all Cayennes along with headlight condensation if this was not already performed prior to delivery.

The service interval is variable based on your driving pattern, 16 K is ok

My service tech said that the indicator is meaningless; some go on at 5Kmi, some longer. If you wish to reset it yourself you might want to try this. Don't know if it works; haven't tried it.

try this Hold the odometer button on while turning on the key (you don't need to start the engine). The display will say Service Reset. Press the Reset button on the windshield wiper stalk. Reset complete!!!

My dealer has brand new 05 Cayenne loaner vehicles which have the "Service in xxxx miles displayed". They just reset them and wait for them to come back.
I believe it is a worthless algorithm implementation....
