Default Vibration

After many trouble free miles on my CTT it has developed the dreaded vibration I have been hearing so much about. I called today to make a service appointment and they said it has been a problem.

What if any solutions can I expect from my dealer?

I have discovered that after driving many miles in snow, that there is a build up of gravel, etc. on the inside of the rim that needs to be scrubbed/washed off. Looking at your address, I suspect this is not the cause.

Had this with my 19" rims but after 4,000 miles and a third balance things have been great for the last 8,000 miles....

Don't know if it was a combination of the tires having some flat spots or just never in balance...

Hope this helps....

I had a similar experience. My 04 CT was great and suddenly developed the vibration. Dealer said it was tire balancing. After trying this twice, they said that two of them were defective and replaced them under warrenty. Zero vibration since.

is this "dreaded" vibration what I am feeling when I drive between 65-80 and the steering wheel shakes? My dealer tells me that "the porsche has a lot of road feel" and this is normal! Is he full of #$% or do I have to live with this?

Try checking alignment or wheel weights. This is not right.

I can't quite yet on/in this type of "open" forum, Dealers/PNA do monitor the boards. I will keep you all posted as certain matters materialize over the next few weeks.

And may I ask how you know that Dealers/PCNA monitor the boards?

And assuming they do, what do they do with the information they gather from their monitoring activity? Are they like Santa Claus, making a list of who's been naughty and who's been nice?
Somehow I doubt a room full of PCNA personnel trying to put names to avatars.

yep, and it sure the hell isn't "road feel". my last two 911s and current CGT have a LOT more road feel than our steering wheel shaking cayenne does, but those 3 cars don't have shaking steering wheels.

we just put on new tires less than 1k miles ago. hard to believe it was missing a wheel weight from the factory (shaking on the first set) and on the new rebalance (at the pcar dealer) for the new tires too.

ltc,

Q1. In trying to find information regarding a prior problem, both my Service Advisor and Service Manager had seen copy of the Threads posted (with my comments), which did not represent them/situation in a favorable light. The problem worked its way out and the comments/feelings were adjusted accordingly.

Q2 & Q3. I think your right, that they do not sit around and monitor the board or are trying to names to the avatars.

Regarding your Santa Claus satire, it was taken with a grain of salt. As I recall, things go better with sugar. You will need your Service Manager on your side if you are going to bat with PCNA. Trust Me, it helps.
