Default Please clean your roofs

I was driving on the highway behind a Jeep Cherokee when a big chunk of ice flew off the truck. I managed to swirve and avoid getting it in the windshield but it hit my passenger mirror. I thought that the entire thing was broken but thanks to the heating function, the actual mirror portion did not fall off (it was being held by the wires!)

The top part of the housing fell off though and I must replace it (about $250 Cdn as it needs to be painted).

Could have been much worse. Got the license plate number of the truck but spoke to both police and insurance and I am out of luck.

I am stating the obvious here but as a reminder, let's all properly clean our trucks to make sure that we don't do the same to somebody else.

Cheers,

good advice...a golf ball size chunk of ice hit my windshield and luckily nothing happened. Also, keep a larger distance then usual not only becasue of safety due to slippery conditions etc but also becasue of possibility of chunks of the ashpalt hitting your front and and window as well as lights!

I know how you feel, about a month after I bought my CS, a flatbed truck was spraying small pebbles on the exprerssway going over 65 mph (the bastard didn't take the time to spray down his flatbed!) and a few pebbles chipped my right bixenon headlight and center windshield (fortunately they were just chiped, I later bought an Invisishield 3M headlight/foglight protector set)!

Good Luck and drive safely!

Last winter was going at a pretty quick pace (roads were dry) and a car coming from up North which had a few inches of snow on the Roof pulled right in front of me. Bad luck for me as during that lane change a sheet of "snow" caught the wind and flew up right for me to plow through. No damage but damn if I could see where I was going for a few seconds.

Moral of the story for me, even when the roads are clean and dry keep an eye on what is on the car's around you. It's always about situational awareness!

Here in Switzerland a driver is responsible for what falls off his car. Skis, luggage, snow, whatever.

I would vote with the Swiss on this one. What is really annoying is coming up on a gravel truck or flatbed with gravel, dirt and rocks falling off and doing damage to traffic behind.
