Default Shifting Problems? W516 is your answer...

Finally got around to taking the "Pepper" into the shop for some recall's (headlamps, rear wiper) and the infamous "W516 Hesitation when Shifting" problem and wow, I fell like I have a new car!

If you have yet to get your W516, do it sooner vice latter!

Interesting that it would help with your hesitation, the W516 service action is to remedy the "check engine" light from being incorrectly illuminated.

Good point -- the same occurred to me, but it's my understanding that this involved a DME reflash that updated more than the check engine light issue. Many people reported an improvement in performance after this was done. I didn't notice much when mine was updated. But prior to this work, my dealer consulted with PCNA and modified transmission shift points that cured the hesitation. This was done about a month before the W516 was issued. I suspect that I got either the W516 procedure or something like it at that time. Then when I brought it in for the four recalls, they did perform the W516. Everything is working very well, so I want to keep it away from the dealer, else things might go backwards.

It was released September 23rd. It was included in the version 3 software update of the PIWIS. The W516 service action, according to Porsche, is being done to prevent a false check engine light and code for "evaporative system leak". The parameters were too sensitive and would kick the light when in fact there was no leak.
