Default Price negotiation

Has anyone had any success bargaining with a Porsche dealer over the price of a new Cayenne? If so what was your strategy, and dealership? I live in Hawaii and there is only one dealer in the state. I’m considering flying to California or Oregon to purchase a new car. I don't expect the dealer here to be very flexible.

Thanks,
Derrick

I'm curious to know what people are paying these days as well. Back in July, 2004 S models were going for about $1k over invoice here in So Cal...but I'm still seeing large inventories of 2004s here and across the country; with 2005s here, has anybody paid less than invoice on a 2004? What are people paying for 2005s?

Thanks in advance...

Consider that the dealers have about a 13% margin (more or less) which equates to maybe $7,200 USD based upon a $55,900 MSRP before options on a Cayenne "S" according to the PAG website.

The flight costs, travel time, loss of business revenue and/or personal salaried income, freight costs to Hawaii...etc....etc....far outweight the inconvenience you will experience upon your return at the first warranty claim. Is a $1-2,000 difference worth it ? For that matter....is $3,000 worth it ?

Everyone has to make some money. How much is up to you.

You are not buying a Faberge egg here.....so think twice before you cut off your nose to spite your face.

I agree with what has been said...I live in Alaska where there is only one dealer here too. I bought a Cay S in late 03. In looking at the "mainland" dealers....there was a better selection available and many were willing to pay for the cost of shipping, but used that excuse to justify little negotiations on the MSRP. I ended up buying locally to have a "better" relationship with the dealer/service dept. so they could not blame outside parties in the event of a problem. If you find a car on the lot that has been there for over a month that you like....you can usually negotiate the price down below MSRP (2-3 K) as they will want to move their inventory. If you order a car through your dealer...usually harder to negotiate much below MSRP. My .02. AK

Default CT Price

I got $2500 off my CT earlier this year. It's an '04 and had been sitting on the lot for a while. I also assume it's easier to get a bigger discount on the pricier models since the dealer is working off a fixed percentage (higher MSRP = higher margin = more ability to discount). Put another way, $2500 is a 10% discount on a $25,000 car but is only a 2.5% discount off of a $100,000 car.

I ordered my last Porsche (a Boxster) and paid full MSRP. That seems to be similar to other's experiences. Get one off the lot if you can.

Alan,
Mine's a V6 for 42k, MSRP was 47,800. $5800 off msrp. Manufactured date 5/04. Hope this helps.

don't stop negotiating until it feels like you are stealing, otherwise it will never feel right.

The best I've found for a V6 with Xenons is just under MSRP, no where near invoice. But it is a 2005, so that makes sense, right?

In the Bay Area, one local dealer quoted me $500 verbally above invoice on 2004 V6 automatics that were (and are) just still sitting there. They are going to have to start going at or below invoice pretty soon unless they want to be selling '04s past Christmas!

I got a fax quote from a dealer in Bend, Oregon. They would let a 2005 Cayenne S go for $4200, under MSRP. Does that sound about right?

I am picking up my CS on tuesday. It has a 64k MSRP and I am buying it for 52K, BUT.... it is a demo with 287 miles on it. However, my father is picking up his on tuesday also, (my mom is surprising him) and his was a base model CS with sticker of 56k and we are buying it for 49k. So I am sure we got a better deal for buying two, but the deal would be good for one or the toher or both. Dealers want 04's off their lots NOW!!!!!!!!!!! Goos time to negotiate. Good luck..... My 01-996 gets picked up on wednesday but its not bad. My first son should be coming any day now, found out the wife is two centimeters yesterday......

Just picked up my 05 S. Sat with dealer, went online to check his (and other local) dealers inventory. Found one @ the dock with the equip i wanted. msrp 72K, 5K off. My research shows that the demand is very different around the country. West coast, Fla, sell for list (ish). I live in CT.
