Installing telephone preparation 05 Cayenne Turbo

Installing telephone preparation 05 Cayenne Turbo
After an extensive search I found my new 05 Cayenne turbo. Unfortunately it did not come with telephone preparation. I want to have it installed by my local dealership, sadly they want 2k to do the job. Somehow it takes 11hrs to complete. Is that normal?
I even talked to some people who say that only PCM2 cars can have telephone preparation added. Are all 05’s PCM2?

This is a controversial area. Unless something has changed, you cannot get a telephone preparation kit with PCM2. Their telephone kit does work with CDR23 and maybe earlier PCM systems. But, I know this is something Porsche and third party companies are working on so maybe something has changed. It is possible now to put in a system that will mute audio when using the phone, but that's the extent of the integration.

There has not been any information that I have seen that shows a U.S. PCM2 vehicle supports the telephone option. The quoted time sounds correct for installing the prep into a CDR23 vehicle, as Porsche leaves all extraneous and unused wires and connectors off the vehicle, in order to maintain the Cayenne as a value leader and hold the vehicle weight down. So, a CDR23 vehicle must be ripped apart to run a few wires, from front to back.
So no integrated telephone for you.

That is not good news.
I was told by my dealer that it can be done. All 05's are apparently PCM 2.1 which are available for phone preparation upgrade.
Are you guys certain about this?

As of this date, we are not aware of anyone in the US fully integrating a telephone with PCM in a Cayenne. This topic is discussed frequently, so I think we would have heard if something changed.
The telephone w/PCM is an option in Europe.

What do you think is going to happen? I think PCM2 means that its not a stock option, but a Tequipement upgrade.

We just went through this. A customer bought an 04 Cayenne Turbo. The official "Porsche Cell Solution" is definitely available. So we order the neccessary parts. Almost $1000 CDN in parts alone! The option is only $340CDN from factory. So we go to install the system. Over 10 hours of labour! The dash, passenger seat, console, carpeting, headliner, and some trim all need to come out. Install the antenna in the rear spoiler, run wiring, mount the cradle. The total bill came to around $2300CDN.
After going through this, we have since added 9ZF Telephone Preparation to every 05 Cayenne we have in production. Just in case.
And for the record, the phone works fine.

The Technical Information Bulletin 9187 5/04, titled: "Preparation For Mobile Phone Installation Instructions" states, in the first paragraph, "Not for vehicles with PCM2.0 (I No. PF1/PF2 up to and including model year '04)".
Does this mean that, for the telephone to work, the PCM must be upgraded, for example to PCM 2.1, as stated in abtmuda's post?
If so, are these the instructions for installing the telephone, or is there a more current version of instructions?
When the PCM version on my vehicle is queried, by pressing MAIN and TRIP, it responds that the system software version is 3.0.
When I attempted injecting audio into the PCM2, as per these instructions, I was not successful. Is that because the PCM2 needs to have the telephone enabled with the PST2, as stated in step 12.8? The telephone mute function worked, but the remote telephone audio did not come to the vehicle speakers.

Yes, my mistake. I didn't catch that Difference Engine was referring to a 2004. I was still thinking MY 2005 because of TimC and abtumda posts.
I need to check with my dealer and see what they know about this.

In the end I spoke with POA, they informed me that all 05’s are phone upgradeable.
I ordered all the parts, including a cradle for my specific phone. I will keep you posted on the progress.
