how to "soften" the ride on the S
#16
My lil 2 cents worth
I have 04 CAYS w/ H&R Springs:
H&R springs are a bit more bouncy feeling ride due to being stiffer than stock. The lowered height is 1.3" approx.. Passerby's and probably your friends will not notice after you drop it if you dont tell them. It is very easy to change springs on CAY's, any competent mechanic that has lowered VW"s such as Jettas can lower the CAYS. With a lift and air tools its about an hour job. $200 w/ 4wheel alignment here in SoCal. Anyone w/ a 911 knows changing the susp. is easy, the Cayenne is much easier than 911.
IMO $300 is high for install, (basically your paying $200-$230 for hour or so worth of labor assuming the $300 includes alignment) But its still way cheaper than $800 from stealerships.
Last I had checked Bilstein had shocks in mind but are not available. They told me around this time they may be ready but I would be prepared to wait several months still if they are not out at this time. Im sure they are feeling out the overall demand factor.
If you really want to lower the vehicle and have it sit nicely esp. w/ 20 or 22's get the coilovers if within your budget. Overall im pleased w/ the H&R's but would of skipped them and got coilovers if I knew they were available.

It took the guy who installed my springs around 4 hours to install and it took the same amount of time to a friend. Its the first time i hear that i took u less than an hour to install. I really noticed a difference in my car after a month or so.
I got mine from tirerack.com
and yes you can use your cars shocks

don let the dealers find out about this, you may lose warranty ^^ get it done somewhere else, I am sure that its cheaper to do it somewhere else since the dealers labor fee per hour is pretty high. It will take 4-5 hours to install

If you have 20" wheels you might find that smaller wheels (18") that have tires with taller sidewalls will soften things up also. I am sure there would be a slight price to pay in ultimate grip but the wife isn't cruising around trying to find the limits of traction on the way back from the Vet's or the grocery store so it might not make a huge difference to most of us.

Time to install
4-5 hours for install? WTF? Are they using hand tools only? jeez man im sorry to hear that. Me and my mechanic were LOL it is so easy. Seriously A VW or 911 is just as hard or harder. BTW it was a one man install job and about an hour, at most 1hr 15 min. Seriously.

Just noticed the Eibach springs now out on ebay. They are about $100 cheaper than the H&Rs. I have seen no reviews on the Eibachs yet. Having H&Rs installed tomorrow.

report re: spring install..... Stupid place decided not to install the springs after looking at the front end. They said "we need a special tool which we do have yet." I said if you had the tool could you do it....uhhhh yea, but we don't want to risk it on such a nice car. Made the SOB give me $75 so that I could get an alignment. uurrr!!!!!

If you are asking such a question, you selected the WRONG car for yourself.
What were you thinking on a test drive?...
Lexus is for you.
