Future Cayenne owner questions
#16
tick tock..just a matter of time and I am going to nuke them...
didn't help a few minutes ago when the freaking passenger door refused to unlock for my mother...she is 80 years old and using a walker...I am standing there like a moron unable to open my door....grrrrr
then we had a lag...haha...i need Prozac...
I think the lag problem is directly connected to my mood or better said, my attitude....
The Cayenne senses that I am angry at it....

I am one of the lucky ones that had my lag 100% fixed, but I certainly do understand how frustrated some of you feel that still have this problem or feature. Reminds me of my X5 4.4 that randomly decided not to start; no fix ever from BMW, but they did buy it back from me after 3 years at a really good price -- $8K less than I paid 3 years earlier. Now, that's customer service. I'm sure there are many X5 owners that loved their vehicle and did not have the start problem, but it's a real downer if you are the unlucky one.

It's a 2004 CT built 03/2003. Initially, I had the lurch problem that was fixed about 9 months ago. After the fix, acceleration from a stop was smooth with no hesitation, however there was still a lag when I accelerated while already at speed of anywhere from 30MPH on up. A few weeks back, my dealer, Claridges in Freemont CA, upgraded both the DME S/W and also the transmission S/W. Performance is now much improved with instant acceleration; when I step on it, the transmission instantly downshifts and off we go -- zero lag. For example, if I'm going 60MPH step on it hard, the transmission will immediately go to 3rd gear; if I step on it just a bit, it will go to 5th. Acceleration is so fast that I have to back off fairly quickly, else I'm going 80+MPH; it's exactly the performance you want. Prior to the update the lag was about 1.5 seconds -- never had the grand mal lag. The description on the dealer paperwork doesn't give much detail regarding what versions of updates were done. I do freeway and some traffic driving.

2. Are there any other issues with the Cayenne that I should be aware of making my decision?
I think if u get a used one that is out of warranty, the PASM and other electrical parts may be something to think about as repair can get costly, even if you do it yourself, maybe check out how much the components can cost. Due to all the little electrical gremlins these have and IMO too many complaints and malfunctions, I am not keeping my CAY-S after warranty expires and will prob trade it in well before, i dont want to deal with and cannot afford any electrical mishaps not caused by myself as a "whoops".

I don't have the "grand mal" hesitation either, but there is a definite one to two second pause between pedal to the floor and tranny kickdown.

I don't know what version of DME and Tranny SW was installed as the paperwork gives no clue. Tell the guys that you want them to do the same thing that they did to mine -- Phil Gluckman. Also, ask them what versions they used and post them so that others can get this fantastic update. Again, mine is a CT, so my fix may not work for other models -- might though. Let us know what happens.
