Default Cleaning/Care Questions

Just curious what you guys have found works best for the care of the following items:

- Leather Interior (Seats/Dash/Steering Wheel) -> I've found that Turtle Wax interior and Armor All both leave streaks unless you effectively douse the whole thing....which I don't really want to do.

- Exterior Waxes - I've always loved Meguairs (sp?) Gold Wax, but am hesistant to apply any wax as I'm unsure of how soon and often one should do that to a new vehicle.

- Bugs off Hood & Windshield - I've got a coarse sponge that works well, but of course I'm scared to dig into the hood. On the glass, it works wonders. I've also used the Porsche Bug Spray that comes in that kit and it works well.

Thanks for any input. I really hope to find a better solution for interior leather and the waxing. I've seen rub-in type leather care, but have feared discoloration.

Please do not put Armor All on your leather What I use are the Lexol products. They make a cleaner and a conditioner. I have used them on my BMW's, Mercedes, and Porsches for years. I have used them on black, grey, tan, and linen white leathers without ever having a discoloration problem. I also use the same products on the leather furniture in my home, never had a problem. I do not think you have anything to fear.

I personally think that most waxes these days will do a good job. I also like Meguiers products but many go for Zymol, which I hear doesn't last as long, the PS21 products are very good and Zaino has lots of fans. You should be safe waxing after just a month or so.

Have Fun!

Ive been using Einszett Lederpflege on my leather with good results. Works well and leaves a great very matte finish. (should be easily available in germany)
For exterior I have been using Zaino, but I love P21S too.

Ditto on the Lexol products. Vinylex is good on the non leather surfaces. Waxes are very personal- everyone has a favourite. Been happy with Blitz wax for daily drivers. Good source is www.carcareonline.com. And lord knows I've tried some of the "newest, greatest" waxes over the years.

- Armor All = bad news, IMHO. I will echo the comments on Lexol- pretty well regarded as the best leather care stuff out here. I also use the Lexol's Vinylex.

- You can apply wax now with no concerns. Meguires is pretty good stuff; I am partial to Zaino's products - http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

- Use the Zaino stuff and the bugs come off really easily. A couple new "pre-wash" soak procudts available that I have heard work well- no personal experience, and I can't remember what they're called...sorry.

Ditto the advice for leather, Lexol is a great product and leaves no streaks on my light gray interior. I have used the Zaino products on my Lapis Blue S since it was new. ALthough it takes a while to get it done right, I am amazed att the way it removes (hides) swirls marks in the dark paint. I also find that by using their show spray (it has a different name) in between Polymer application I can keep the truck looking showroom new. Make sure to go through the whole recommended process, namely, use the clay bar first, you will be amazed at how much stuff is stuck to your paint, then rewash the car, dry it and then use multiple coats of the polymer. Since switching to Zaino, I have tossed alot of very expensive waxes. Good Luck!!

Excellent advice. The Zaino process took me about 5 hours but while it was time consuming, it was easy labor. I use to be a Zymol guy, but Zaino is better -- cheaper, and lasts longer too. I did it about 6 months ago based upon many recommendations, and the finish is still good.

Has anyone tried the new "Mr. Clean AutoDry Carwash". It purports to give a spot free wash with no need to hand dry.

My guess is that it have lots of detergent in it, so it will proably strip the wax off your car in 2 or 3 washes; at least it seems to me that sheeting for no spotting and beading from waxing are mutually exclusive.

I'm also a fan of Lexol Leather Cleaner and Conditioner, I have benn using it for a while now with good results.
Zaino's leather cleaner IMO was to harsh on light colors, it seemed like it was discolorating the leather so I wouln't recomend it, however the leather conditioner is nice.
As far as wax I have used all sorts of it and Meguires kinda takes my vote, Zaino's wax is also good stuff.

Car Car Online (PCA member Larry Reynolds was the founder and owner) is a great source. I also use rejex on my wheels, and it sure does make them easier to clean.
