Tire Rotation
There has been quite a bit of discussion on rapid tire wear, but I haven't seen anything on if or when you should rotate the tires (it isn't mentioned in the maintenance book either). On my 2 wheel drive cars, I rotate at 5000 miles. What is the protocol for 4 wheel drive?
I now have about 5000 miles on my CS with Pirellis. I forgot to mention that the Pirellis are 19".

Rotated mine every 5000 miles and got 17k out of em- would have gone for 23-24 if alignment had not been off (PCNA bought new fronts) 18" Bridgestones on Turbo wheels

It shows a little bit of their green.......

FWIW- Audi only recommended a single rotation at 5k for my allroad, and none for the TT... I am a big believer in rotation (if possible) and have all my cars rotated at 5k. IMHO, you get a better ride and about 15% more life out of the set.

I rotated my 20" Michelins at about 9000 miles. The rears were noticably worn in the center the fronts on the shoulders. I do not cross rotate either. I have had very good luck just swapping front and rear on the same side. Some say that the radial belts tighten in the direction the wheel turns, so I keep them turning the same direction. I doubt I will get more than 20k out of these tires but, if I would not have rotated them, the rears would be toast by 12k. 5k for the first rotation is a good idea.

Cayenne tyre rotation
I work with Porsche in Australia and have now had enough experience to know that the tyre wear issue is mainly caused by a combination of a soft tyre and a heavy sports vehicle.
The only way to reduce wear in your tyres is to rotate and balance tyres every 5000kms as depending on which country you come from and the amount of camber on the road the left hand front tyre tends to take a thrashing(r/h drive).
Pirelli and Continental have issued a statement that the average tyre wear for your first set is 16,000kms which is not a lot . I have seen the occasional 25,000-30,000 km run but i dont think they did anything else but drive highways.

The 20" Diamaris are not unidirectional, so I have been cross-rotating these tires, front-to-rear and cross rear-to-front at each oil change and it seems to be working fine. That is, the wear appears even.

Synthetic oil does not have to be changed at such short intervals.
Good advice on the tires, tho'....

Apologies for the newbie-style question, but I am curious about tire rotation and TPMS:
When the Cayenne's tires are rotated, is it simply a case of removing a wheel from one corner and swapping it out with the appropriate other wheel? If yes, does one just 'reset' the TPMS somehow to relearn the new corners? Or do I physically need to have tires removed from rims in order to rotate?
