Excellent pictures and lovely looking car Renn. The CS must have sounded wonderful accelerating up the mountain roads and around the hairpin bends!

Thanks, Norfolk! The S did sound great, and it was especially cool in some of the tunnels in the mountains. At one point in Switzerland I had two Ferrari 360's following me for a ways, and when we entered tunnels one of them was shifting into neutral and revving the engine just to hear the sound of his engine reverberating off the tunnel walls!

Default FANTASTIC JOURNEY

Renn,
Fantastic coverage of your delivery and trip. I live in Germany at this time and am familiar with all of the places you described. Must have been a truly special journey in a Cayenne S. Beautiful automobile and great pictures.
Thanks for letting me enjoy your experience. JW3

Thanks for the kind words, JW3! My car arrived in Baltimore this week, and was waiting to clear Customs as of Wednesday. Once it gets trucked down to my local dealership, they are going to install the clear "Euro" corner marker lights in place of the U.S. spec amber ones. I am hoping to have her home in my garage sometime next week!

I'm iin the process of writing an article for our local Porsche Club newsletter on the whole delivery process and the subsequent driving tour. If it gets on the web version of our newsletter, I'll post a link to it here on Rennlist.

What a great set of pictures! Congrats on your new ride. It's always been a dream of mine to do a European delivery. I'm on my 3rd Porsche and now after seeing your photos I'm chompinng at the bit for my 4th, for which I'll definately do the Euro delivery. Thanks for the post and for sharring your trip, so cool.

Glad you guys enjoyed the pics! One thing that occured to me about Euro Deliveries, Josh, is that if you're going to do an extended driving tour it's a lot easier to carry all your stuff with a Cayenne than it would be with a Boxster or Carrera! We packed for two weeks, and were able to take a good mix of clothes to cover whatever kinds of weather we would face. You'd have to pack a lot lighter, and probably do some laundry stops along the way, with a Boxster or Carrera.

Of course, a lot depends on whether you are travelling as a couple. A single guy could make it work with a Boxster/Carrera, but if you are taking a lady along with you, figure on getting less than half the luggage space!

So true, my girlfriend and I are laughing about that right now. We've been on many trips and always pack too much. I've got a Cayenne Turbo now and love it. I just got rid of my 996. I figure the next Porsche I'll get will be a 997 based GT3 so I've got a couple years to wait. And I can also use that time to learn to pack lightly. Basically a duffel bag each and that's it.

Regards,

JW

You don't buy the car overseas, you buy it through a US Porsche dealer -- so you get it for whatever deal you negotiate off the sticker price. Plus, Porsche hits you with an add-on charge for Euro Delivery -- but they do give you a pretty special program when you pick up the car, and you are covered for license/registration and two weeks of insurance to drive the car around Europe. That's worth a lot in itself, but you don't do Euro Delivery on a Porsche to get a killer deal compared to the US.

Great pics and car. I'm looking forward to doing a Euro delivery of a car some time in the near future. It'll probably be a BMW though, since BMW actually makes the Euro delivery basically "free" by selling you the car at a discount. It's too bad Porsche nickel-and-dimes us on already expensive cars.

Great pics. I'm really thinking of going for Euro delivery for my 997S. Everything went smoothly with the Porsche tours?
