955 manual shifting issue

955 manual shifting issue
New to Rennlist. Just picked up a 2005 955 CTT(very cool). Everything(almost) works except this really weird shifter problem. Followed all relevant threads and none helped.
Hoping someone has some info on this or just likes to chase rabbits
-Manual shifting via the shift lever/handle does not work when car started in PARK
-Manual shifting via the shift lever/handle DOES work when car started in NEUTRAL, although quits working if put in PARK and then back to DRIVE
*When started in NEUTRAL, If PCB is lifted when shifting to PARK(so that the PCB doesn't send PARK signal to the TCU I surmise), manual shift mode continues to work
-Manual shifting via the steering wheel buttons/paddles ALWAYS works
-ODB reader(Foxwell 510) 'Live data' shows TCU fault when lever put in manual mode UNLESS car started in NEUTRAL(and never put in PARK)
*Magnets under shift trim are fine, lights on shift trim are fine
*swapping shifter PCB did not help
*TCU unplugged/cleaned reinstalled did not help
*shift cable bushing is fine
