Question 4-wheel drive failure and PSM failure warnings?

My wife was driving the Cayenne S from Los Angeles back to Northern California (4 1/2 hour drive) yesterday afternoon when some warnings popped up on the display. I then drove it later last night and the same warnings popped up. Didn't hear any unusual sounds or notice anything unusual about the drive. Brought it to the dealer this morning to have it checked out - no warnings came up during my drive to the dealer.

Does anyone have experience or advice on these warnings?

My S is a 2004 purchased Nov 03.

I have seen and read a couple of these types of warnings but cannot recall a 4 wheel drive failure.

When these have been reported, most of the time its one of the strut sensors, not the system itself.

The fact thats its on/off points to electronics rather than pneumatics.

So long as the car does not ground out on the suspension, I would keep driving it, but the dealer has to fault find until its found or you will not be able to rely on the warning systems at all and something more serious may happen.

let us know what happens

Thanks Michael. Normally, I would drive it for a few more days to try and figure out what's going on but this is also my 2 1/2 year old daughter's commute car!

The indication is that this is an intermittent fault. As such, the fault code will reside in the vehicle memory for 50 ignition cycles. It may prove useful later on to have the dealer interrogate the vehicle, within that period, to obtain the fault code, along with the other information collected during the fault.

If the dealer performs this diagnostic, then it would be useful to request the fault code and post it in this topic.

Just got a call from the dealer. A new Transfer Case Actuator Motor has been ordered and should be in tomorrow. I forgot to ask if there were any fault codes.

BenLee, the same happened to me on I-210. Dealer told me it may be caused by one of 4 wheels off the ground at high speed. I did bring my car in to check the fault codes, and not thing was found in the computer. The freeways around Los Angeles are not too smooth
