2003 Cayenne with Canbus issues
Hi all
I managed to pick up quite cheap a 2003 CTT, which has some electrical gremlins, which I was aware of.
The instrument cluster was pretty much shot with only fuel guage and speedo actually working. All of the warning lights did light up when turning the ignition and starting the car as expected.
Cars runs really well, motor and gearbox is good. All major known issues already taken care of such as plastic coolant pipes, Cardan bearing, transfer case, fuel and water pumps etc.
The issue is electrical / canbus, and this is where I am stuck. Car is currently with mechanic who is an indy Porsche specialist and drives a 955 Cayenne himself, yet he says he has not seen this before.
A bunch of things not working:
Instrument cluster
Steering wheel controls
Cruise control
Front windscreen wipers (rear work fine)
Front & rear park sensors
Everything else seems to work well, windows, sunroof, door locks, aircon, seat heating, auto leveling headlights etc.
He swapped out the instrument cluster for another and it is displying the exact same symptoms, speedo and fuel guage working only.
I had planned to drive it home from interstate and then methodically work through to find where the potential issue might be, however with the weather at the time heavy rain, was not possible without wipers, so had no choice but to leave it at the mechanic and hope he can find the issue.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be (I think he may have already checked the wiring under the carpet for corrosion, however auto elec looking at it next week). From what I understood a lot of the programming etc for this year was held in the cluster itself, so to have the same result with cluster swapped out is a little confusing.
I am hoping that he finds the issue next week, else I either have to resell it for what I can get, given the engine and box is good, else try to get it home and spend my own time on finding the issue, which as I said was my original intention rather than paying someone else to do it.
Thoughts and suggestions are of course most welcome.
Thanks
Richard
