Cool Touareg/Cayenne based Audi A7

Edmunds.com SUV electronic newsletter has pictures of the Audi A7 (Pikes Peak Concept Car). The article said this vehicle is Cayenne/Touareg based and will be for sale in North America this fall. Base engine was the 4.2L V8 (not VW 4.4), and had a 500 Hp Turbo version.

Looks nice!

Same old concept pics. I'd like to see what the production looks like.

Heard it is longer than the Cayenne S (same length as the soon to arrive "streched" Tourage) for that third row seat...

Looks nice, and with the VW being hard to swallow price wise, might out sell the Tourage in a few quickly...

Love my Cayenne S

With the recent flurry of Audi to dealer info lately, I'm surprised that I haven't seen a press release of any kind regarding the A7 going on sale in the fall. The SWB A8 will be out in a couple months, the 12cyl A8L by the end of the year.. If they are selling it this fall, they should get some prelim info out to us ASAP so we can be prepared for discussions like this.

Article also says a production version may be released late this year, going on sale spring of 06... That far out, who knows what will be available then.

These photos show the actual concept vehicle prototype
at the '03 Detroit North American International Motor Show
as opposed to just drawings:

Will Porsche ever make a version of this, or will it just be Touareg &
Audi? My dealer says the Cayenne will always stay a 5-seater.

The Cayenne will stay a 5 seater, as plans to develop the '3rd row seat Cayenne' died whenVW/ Audi and Porsche could not come to terms over royalty/license fees from VW/Audi for using the Cayenne chassis as a starting point (basically just a stretch).

VW/Audi claimed that since the chassis was not IDENTICAL to the Touareg/Cayenne, there was no reason to pay Porsche the requested revenues.
Right after that, Porsche dropped the '3rd row seat Cayenne' from the model lineup and production planning.
This argument has also caused some problems regarding a potential VW/Audi turbodiesel in a future Cayenne model.

Too bad, might have been an interesting car.
