Default Cayenee S. vs. v6

1st, we were near to purchasing a Cayenne S until we read the JD Powers report slamming the Cayeene's relability.

I've got a couple of questions.

1) What are the main problems that the Cayenne's been having and are or wil they be fixed for the new year. We live in Billings, MT and are 500 miles away from service, so this is a problem for us. We have a 996--will Porsche take care of us if we do have problems with our Cayenne.

2) The Cayenne S is a little pricey. We could get the base Cayenne v6 model with the options we wanted (PASM, most notably) and a few others for the MSRP of the Cayenne S. What would you recommend?

Also, at the dealership in Burlingame, CA, we saw a Black on Black S service loaner with 10,000 miles. If we do want the S model, would this be a good solution if we don't want to pay the full price. Do you think that they would/have serviced the Cayeene and replaced and fixed its electronics.

Thanks,

Matt

I would first browse the fourm as the answers to all of your questions are here in pretty good detail.

NOW, for my opinion, The V6 is nice, but spend the extra money and have fun with the S, as it is a Porsche you are purchasing, not an Explorer. If you are going to buy the V6 and are worried about price, get the Tourage!

I don't have issues purchasing my S, but would have issues buying something with a Porsche badge but with the perfomance of a Ford Explorer....

Again, my opinion and welcome aboard...

Get the S...the performance difference is huge. I have the steel suspension and it is fine.

Do not confuse small niggles with reliability. There is no reliability problem with the Cayenne, only niggles.

15000 reliable miles and counting with 14000 friends out there to date.

Get a copy of the TSBs (technical service bulletins) from Carfax or become a paid member here - for work to done to date. Make that a condition of your purchase.

Rector is usually high. Shop Michaels in Fresno.

I have about 12K on my S (a July 03 build). I had battery problems first month (because I left door open while working) and the truck lites up like a Christmas tree. Mine is lightly optioned with PASM & tow(no nav, comfort pak, etc.). I have a tendancy to drive fast & I like it a lot.

So you're a niner fan, IN MONTANA? Welcome aboard.
