18.3 average for a CS that's pretty good, mine is showing (and acting like) 16.5 at all times, there's somethng wrong with either my car or the display...

You know.....funny thing about the gas milage. We just moved to a fairly mountainous area of Colorado from the flatlands of Minnesota. It seems that ALL of my cars/trucks are getting better fuel economy out here. The coasting downhill must have a larger impact than the powering uphill out here. I have seen a 1-2mpg increase on all of my vehicles lately. That may be the explaination for my better numbers. Thank goodness it is a little better because the gas prices are not pretty, as much as $2.35 for prem depending on where you buy it.

I would agree on the used Cayenne S route. You can get them now in the high40s (tho' they are relatively hard to find).

I tow my 914/6 race car with the C-S (going to Watkins Glen this weekend...yea!). and it tows like there is nothing there. I used to have a v8 explorer, and the C-S is a far superior tow vehicle.

As far as gas mileage goes, I agree with the other post...the C-S is just about as good as any other tow-capable SUV out there. I get ~16mpg mixed city/highway (on the highway I get 18-19). The one thing that makes the Cayenne a bit more expensive on gas, is that you can't use the cheap stuff. Still, unless you drive 100 miles each day, I doubt $s difference is significant.
