As nice as an enclosed trailer is, you are not going to be able to see around it with the Cayennes mirrors. An open trailer would be much safer. Just a thought.

Good point, additionally there is wind resistance with the box (can get squirrely). I think there are secure trailer mounted tool boxes that might help.

skl,
I have an enclosed trailer made by a local mfr and it is 20 ft long by 102" wide. It weighs about 2900 lbs and I can tow my 356 (1900lbs) or my 993 TT (3300lbs) in it with my Cayenne S without any problems. I purchased side view mirror extensions from my local trailer place and they work great to eliminate the problem that Brent-89GT spoke of above. I have towed from PA to Watkins Glen NY (350 miles) with gear and my kids and the Cayenne performs very well. Good luck!

Tony, glad to hear that as I really want an enclosed trailer for some of the extra crap you have to carry as the Cayenne isn't going to be as big as the GMC 2500 crew cab I'm selling!!

I ended up with a CargoPro enclosed aluminum (20'+ 5' V nose), fully finished interior (aluminum/carpet walls, diamondplate flooring, cabinets. lights) and it comes in at under 2400#.

skl,
I haven't had a brake controller under the dash in the Cayenne yet, so the towing duties are being handled with my wife's Excursion/PowerStroke diesel......which could probably tow the trailer and the Cayenne.

The trailer was $8995, then with all the options (just about everything: carpet 3' up walls, driver side escape door for easy car loading, lights, LED lights, cabinet, diamondplate flooring, loading lights w/polished spring cover) it was $12K.

I believe that all trailer manufacturers have raised their prices ~ 10% due to energy costs in producing aluminum and steel.....I ordered mine a week before the increase.

I've seen the Trailex enclosed at the track. Not being able to stand up and leaf spring suspension made me look at others.
