Default Looking to purchase a Code Reader /Scanner need input

Right now I’m looking at the Foxwell NT530..I’m having some issues with the car surging and cutting back especially after driving for some distance..I’m suspecting fuel pump/pumps..I replaced the plugs yesterday and it has a miss it seems when you rev it up..No codes..After plug change it’s saying faulty brake booster..will this scanner be good for diagnosis of the pumps, turbos etc..not looking to spend over $180..I’m sure there’s some codes internally that are not showing..thanks

I got the same one, on a recommendation from a local mechanic who does PPI inspections. My non-scientific, non-experienced (novice) opinion is it dies some code reads, little to zero writing/pairing/adjusting.

basically, you’ll get the ability to read some codes and even reset some and run some control module tests, but you’ll need to go to big boys for pairing modules, calibrating, etc.

In my mind, it is just a cheap code reader with a P tax.

im sure others will weigh in. I think there are threads on this forum that compare features and “what you can / cannot do” with various readers.

good luck!

With a $180 budget, that is your one and only option that will do much of anything on a Porsche above the level of generic OBD2. Whether it'll work for you depends mostly on your knowledge level. As in, if all you know how to do is read codes, there's no difference b/w this and $10k PIWIS3. If you were able to read and interpret live date (requires good understanding of what is what), then you'll be better off getting a more capable tool able to display multiple parameters simultaneously.

FWIW I’m returning the Foxwell and have a durametric on the way.

im hoping to resolve some headlight issues, and hopefully deeper insight into boost issues I’m having, and to be able to service and reset brakes, among other things.

fingers-crossed
