Default Can I haul this trailer with my Cayenne?

I wonder if this is pushing it?

It would have a 944 turbo inside plus some extras, like tires, etc.

I´m pretty sure you could.. but, I don´t think that trailer is good to transport a car.. notice it only has 4 wheels, and they are in the back, so the trailer isn´t very balanced... the car would be in a roller coaster during the trip, if you know what I mean... dunno, maybe you can prevent the car from moving, but just one ideia.. that black trailer, HAS to have a Porsche logo, a small one, in each side..

Every car hauler I have seen in this size has 4 wheels. This trailer is a car hauler.

I plan on using my TT to haul a 26' TPD trailer and my Cup car. Total weight should be just over 7000 lbs. Currently towing with a Suburban.

You should get a weight distributing hitch and anti-sway bars for the hitch.

Perio, I think you'll be fine. Just make sure you don't exceed the Cayenne's gross-trailer-weight limit of 7716 poinds and its tongue-weight limit of I-don't-remember.

The load will have to be balanced carefully so that the tongue weight isn't too high, and goplay's recommendations of weight-distribution and antisway systems are good.

And Porsche logos are a MUST!

I believe that there have been some previous posts/threads which stated that you should NOT use a weight distributing/anti sway type hitch on the Cayenne.

Also, I believe there was discussion that the max towing capacity was 6700 lbs with a tongue weight of 10% (670lbs).

Itc, I thought the max is 7716 lbs.

I also heard the same thing about not using the anti sway/weight distributing systems on the Cayenne, especially with the air suspension.

David,
Here is a recent thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...t=towing+hitch

There is lots of discussion regarding trailer length compared to wheelbase, V nose versus flat nose in wind conditions. It also seems that tongue weight is normally 10% of capacity.

My concern in towing a trailer like this would be rear visibility. You will probably need mirror extentions to see around the box. Haven't seen any yet for Cayennes.

I bought a Cargopro V nose all aluminum enclosed car hauler, #2500 empty, so even with a car and spares I'm well under whatever the max is:
http://cargoprotrailers.com/html/car_haulers.html. Light, should last forever and resale is very good on these.

I will be using my wife's Excursion/PowerStroke diesel when trailering my car until I get more comfortable towing with the Cayenne (mine has PASM and I bought the hitch receiver from Suncoast Porsche for about $87).

I
The 10% is a educated guess. That's normally a boat/trailer set up. Most trailerable boats are stern drive with the motor and outdrive behind the trailer's wheels.

www.vwvortex.com has an excellent thread on this subject. A Treg owner had the trailer VW had used on their TV commercial before his purchase. He bought the truck to tow the trailer. VW strongly advised not to use stabilizer bars on the trailer, "since this airsuspension is a superior system that doesn't need it. " There was talk it would void warranty.

The tongue load is 616lb on the C. The trailer VW used in the ad had a tongue load of 725+/-. When the owner took the truck on the road the vehicle went wild. The air suspension kept trying to adjust the level of the vehicle because the nose was too high. He parked it and VW took it back & discontinued the ad.

Looking at the trailer in question, I would bet the tongue weight would be greater than 700lb, when the tires and other stuff are loaded in the front of the trailer.

Search for the drawtight hitch company, they have excellent info on hitches etc.

The mirror advice is excellent.

The tongue weight can be adjusted simply by moving the car's position in the trailer.

Some #s from the owners manual

Trailer Operation
Maximum Gross Weight 6,746 lbs

Towing Capacity/Vehicle + Trailer Weight
Maximum Towing Capacity, braked 7,716 lbs
Maximum Towing Capacity, unbraked 1,654 lbs
Maximum vehicle + trailer weight 14,462 lbs
Maximum Trailer Hitch Load 617 lbs

I agree. The key is to keep the max over or behind the wheels. Many times people forget the accessories weight (tires, wheels). It happens with boats: folks forget the weight of fuel (6lb per gal) and all the rest of the junk that makes the experience enjoyable.
