The V1 installs just like any other detector.
However, due to its popularity, many folks have found "more complicated" installation methods, such as high on the windshield, where they can hide the wiring. That's when it becomes complicated. But, this would apply to a similar installation of any other detector (except, perhaps, for the battery-operated ones like Solo,but they have their own problems).
You can install it simply by plugging it into any 12v lighter receptacle, or you can hard-wire. Simple or complicated, it's up to you.
