I dont have my single spare key in front of me, but it seems like it would be safe to submerge it. I dont recall it having any seams that would let water in.

Not that I reccomend submerging your key, but I washed my key/remote in the washer for about 10 minutes before i realized it. I dryed it out, then tried it and it worked like new, not a problem.

lolol.. you guys are crasy... washing the key... well, but you´re talking about the fully plastic no-tech key ?? a small black key ? if that´s it, I suppose you can put it in the middle of the Atlantic... it´s just plastic, isn´t it ?
The spare key has an embedded computer chip that your cars computer recognizes. It needs to be programmed to your vehicle if replaced as I know from experience (dealer lost my original and all key codes were changed). I suppose it would be ok to submerge it, but I would first ask PCNA about this and then share the facts with us ASAP.

The spare key is absolutely waterproof!
I used mine in the ankle strap of my surfboard leash for several months with no problems. Unfortunately, during a large winter swell the key snapped in half. A new key was ordered and delivered but ALL of my keys had to be reprogrammed.
Enjoy the water but "handle with care"...

When I used to dive (everyday in Hawaii for almost 8 years) I had a water tight containr that I put my key into. Most dive shops sell them for very cheap.
Tie this into your BCD pocket and you will be good to go!

JFScheck,
Thanks for the tip. Did it ever flood? I would hate to come back to the car and end up stranded. I assume a flooded key would open the door, but not start the car.
Peter.

Had it for six years till I lost it and had to purchase another one. Tighten it before you get in the water, and the water pressure actually helps to seal it more as you go deeper...
Place it in your BCD pocket and attach with small rope/string in case you open the pocket underwater and you will be good to go!

well, I have a pretty definitive answer. I accidentally left my key in my swim trunks this afternoon and wrestled with my son in the pool for about a half hour. When I realized my mistake I was sure my remote was shot. Went out to the car, hit unlock, and BAM. Car unlocked just fine. No damage whatsoever as far as I can tell, though I won't be making a habit of swimming with my key. It seems to be waterproof, but I would put it in a ziplock or something just to be safe...
