Default DVD in Headrests

I'm confused on what a fair price for a good DVD system should cost for a Cayenne. I'm living in Germany and called Techart and got a price quote around ~ 5,600 Euros or roughly $6,700. However, I also spend time in Park City, Utah and called a reputable company out there who quoted me a price of about $2000 for a similar "high-end" system. $4,700 is a fairly big difference for similar systems.

I'm looking to get 2 screens installed in the headrests and just be able to play DVD's through it. Ideally, I'd loved to get it installed out here in Germany. However, and regardless of location or country, does anyone have a good idea as to what a system like that my cost? I know that's an open ended question loaded with variables, so here's basically all I want:

- 2 Screens (at least 4"-6") installed in back of headrests.
- DVD throughout car utilizing the car's sound system

thanks,

matt

The PCM2 does not have an external audio input. So, a FM modulator may be the only way to play the DVD audio through that sound system. With screens in the headrests, won't headphones be used?

Is the $2K Utah system compatible with the European country code and the PAL format, or will US DVDs be used?

I would love to see any pictures. I would be playing DVD's from the states, so non-PAL (guess that would be NTSC?) formatted DVD's. I'm U.S. Citizen living (stuck?) in Germany for a few years.

I've used some of those FM Modulater for various devices including an IPOD. I'd like not to have to use headphones because it's for my kids and I'm not anxious to impact their hearing or anything. Furthermore, when you go to an FM Modulator, you can get stereo (Left/Right) but you can't send encoded Dolby Surround, AC3 or other formats, right? I'm not sure on that, but it would be cool if there was a way to have at least the audio dynamics perceivable by the car.

The Euro spec factory telephone sends analog mono audio through the rear connectors on the CDR23. It may be possible to send stereo through those connectors, but that is not documented.

Otherwise, with the PCM2, it is tough luck to get audio into the MOST network, forcing usage of an FM modulator.

OK, I think I remember a thread a while back, but how did they get video into the display, and more important, are they using some other interface vice an FM modulator to get the sound?

I have been waiting for the Visualogic system, which is not available yet. I am told it will be in the low to mid $2K range (incl 2 headrests w/ screens) depending upon whether you get a single or multiple DVD unit. I heard they are having trouble matching the leather just right, and there have been delays.
