Wiring in factory optioned headrest displays

Correct on the audio; since the system was an after thought and never part of the MOST system audio is IR only...badly affected by electromagnetic interference in a vehicle with plenty of it.
I can show you the seat backs I removed with the system. They were modified to accomodate the monitors by having a section cut out of them. Normal seatbacks lack the section cut at the top. I've since reinstalled these with the monitors to accomodate the monitors.
Note the section cut from the top. Without a monitor in place, you can see the internals of the seat from the back seat.

Salvage seat backs can solve that issue. I had normal seatbacks handy because I was transplanting the seats in from a Turbo S. The stock non-rear seat entertainment seatbacks mate up perfectly.

One thing I would like to play around with is the idea of a double din android deck substituting for the internals on one of these units. I realize the 'just put the damned tablet mount in and be done with it' is reasonable, but I like the idea of form factor concealing an upgrade. Eh *shrugs* voltage inputs are easy enough.

One other 'thing' to come to mind for me is this; ignoring the DVD drive which is hardwired into the IR audio system, Aux inputs one and two are connected via RCA jacks. In the case of those two, there's nothing saying you -have- to connect the two channel audio to the RCA inputs on the main control box. If you, say, have an Android deck, or anything that can allow for an aux input (like I do with my Mr. 12 volt bluetooth adapter) you can always run a cable back to mate up with the audio from the aux channels thereby bypassing the IR audio out and putting the sound through the stereo deck instead. Because I'm weird interested in proving this, I -may- revisit the aux one channel at some point, temporarily run a patch cable to my aux in, and then with an AC inverter power up my 1979 Sony cassette deck from my home theater. I don't think it'd be as funny to anyone else as it would be to me, but at least I'd have proof of concept?
