Default 2006 Cayenne Base Front Driveshaft Installation

Hi everyone, has anybody replaced the front driveshaft on a 955, or 957 before? I have been getting a vibration in the front end and after further inspection, my front driveshaft appears to be leaking grease from the CV joint that is bolted to the front differential flange. After reading some workshop manuals online, they say that there is a "colored mark" on the CV joint of the driveshaft and on the front differential flange that has to be lined up when reinstalling. Does this only apply if you are reinstalling the original shaft, or also if you are replacing the driveshaft with a new one? I have already ordered an original GKN front driveshaft, so my question is will it come with a colored mark on one of the ends? I know there are 6 bolts on each end of the driveshaft, so why should this even matter if the driveshaft comes balanced from the factory? Additionally, does the transfer case flange have to be synchronized with the front differential flange in anyway? All feedback is greatly appreciated!

No need to worry about such marks. It doesn't matter how You install it and no "synchronization" or anything like that is required.

Thank you for your response. So I am assuming that this only applies if you are removing the original factory shaft and reinstalling?

I don't know about that. If there are any marks from the factory, they usually aren't visible after 15 or so years anyway. I've replaced hundreds of driveshafts and/or joints/boots and never given it a thought.
