So. The engines are NOT the same, and neither is a bunch of the suspension parts/pieces. The Cayenne handles differently than the VW, period.

Well......I have to admit to selling the 951 I had turned it into a wicked DE car and in the process blown a couple headgaskets. I could see some long distance driving in my future so I went for a 928. Still, for raw speed nothing is a better platform than the 951

Amen to that... I'm in love with it myself. I do lust after your shark though, I haven't driven one yet, but I hear they were some of the best, true GT's ever made. Stable at uber-speeds, good power, comfy interior... a real grand tourer!

...I'm still partial to my nimble and quick Turbo though

they are not built on the same assembly line. The reg is built in slovakia. Hence the poorer quality of the reg.

Actually the carriages of both the Pepper & the Treg are built in Slovakia.

They are delivered to different plants (of each manufacturer - P-> Leipzig)for engine install & electronics - body parts. The struts are installed in Slovakia; an outsourced part.

VW purchased the Skoda plants (w employees); so one could conclude they are all Skodas with attitude. Frankly, I think they've done a great job; not like VW's experience in Mexico.

VW might be having problems w their electronics if there are quality problems.

Kevin, If you are still questioing the differences, a DRIVE is in order. The Cayenne will have MUCH more of that nimble feeling you have with the 951. The VW is going to be more like a typical modern SUV with more body roll and numb steering feel.

If you have any intentions fo racing around in your next choice, the choice will be clear after a test drive. For a 5000lb truck the Cayenne is very impressive, and worth the extra cost IMO.
