955 / 957 Glove box drop
I was fixing the glove box light and it seems I put too much weight on the glove box door. The glove box dampers supports seem to come off at the top (BLUE ARROWS) , making the glove box drop further down as there is no support.
I checked the diagram on AutoAtlanta. Hoping to understand the diagram and wondering if I broke something or the damper supports are just inserted. Anyone had this problem and fixed this before? Did you have to remove the glove box. Any advice would be appreciated.

Looks like I found the answer at PelicanParts...... It doesn't connect on the top, but clips in on the side.
I guess, it will hard to determine if it just popped out or the clip is broken unless I remove the glove box.

Take out the glove box, it's not that hard. Chances are you broke the damper. They're quite fragile, really, all plastic, small clips holding the thing together. I bought my GTS with messed up dampers. Replacements from the dealer are in the $40-50 range if memory serves me right. It was cheaper to buy a whole used box with dampers on eBay shipped to my door, so that's what I did.

Thank you guys for input.
I removed the glovebox, pretty easy, seven screws, just being careful removing the dash trim. I found my support dampers to be popped out and fully separated. So I just put them back together and popped in the dumper clips to re- secure. I actually believe my glovebox was compromised for some time, me putting extra weight on it, lead to complete separation of the dampers and full drop, I think they were like this for some time. All sorted, the glovebox opens nice and slow, much more controlled motion than ever before, so I am pretty happy, as yes two replacement units will set you back about $100.
Hope this helps the next guy.

It looks to me like your snap tabs on the damper are broken. If both of them are broken, hope you McGivered a reinforcement of sorts or else I would not rely on it to last. Could be that they had been broken before, who knows. This is the same thing that happened to me. I'd guess some neanderthal was trying to "open" the glove box to replace the cabin air filter. In lots of cars pulling the glove box open is correct to replace the filter, but that's an expensive mistake to make on the Cayenne.
