Default 04 V6 Rear Engine Coolant Leak

Im new here so I don't know if I am posting this correct, but here goes. I have a 2004 that I just recently purchased. Have been noticing a small leak in the driveway. Took it to a friend's shop with a lift and he says its coming from the rear of the engine. Says all the cooling hoses connect there or something, and that there is some sort of housing there. Took it somewhere else and they said it could be the head gasket. Truck isn't overheating at all. Only had to put coolant in it once in the 6 weeks I've owned it. So I don't really think its the head gasket, but, then again, I'm no mechanic. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Not sure if it is same in 3.2, but on 3.6 V6 engine there is a coolant flange gasket that leaks https://www.renntech.org/topic/51734...ant-leak-help/
Also, check the coolant expansion tank, it is a common issue.

I like the cooling hose idea; a head gasket leak will give you far more problems than a pool of coolant at the back of the motor, like milkshake oil and smoky exhaust.

The 3.2 motor is a VW VR6, and the Cayenne shares a lot of parts and design with the Touareg, so any time you have a problem that you can't find help for here, check in the VW forums and see if they're having that problem.

That being said, if the 3.6 V6 from the later trucks has the same coolant routing as the VR6 - and it could, since the firewall didn't change - then that's also a good place to start looking.

Good luck, and be sure to report back on your findings and solution. I've been on this forum for nearly 10 years and I don't remember hearing about this problem before.

Default Same problem.

Digging out. Same problem here. 2007 3.6 Cayenne with 200 000km. The coolant flange (VW OEM number 03H 121 144 A) at the back of the engine just disintegrated when touched. Coolant was leaking over the transmission and dripped from transmission oil pan.
