Default Parking Heater

Does anyone have the shop manual section for the Webasto parking heater on the Turbo S from 06? I'd like to see what is involved in this thing, what maintenance I need or should do, etc.

Webasto heaters aren't very complex, there are few simple fixes like glow plug or flame sensor replacement that are relatively easy diy. Then there are the heater mainboard electrical faults that are much harder to fix. Those can still be fixed it problems occur, no need to buy a new card for ridiculous webasto prices.

If it works, there really is no maintenance other than just using it for like once a month even when You don't really need it to keep things running. Attached is a repair manual for Thermo Top Z/C/E, I don't remember which model the Cayenne has but most of the information would be be relevant anyway.

Dealer said they can't get remotes for the US market. I have tried to get one from Webasto with no luck. Problem is the integration into the Cayenne climate system apparently.

To further the Webasto Parking heater information:

I had a problem when it would fire but not stay working. The dealer (bless their heart) diagnosed (incorrectly) that the problem was with the fuel pump. They could not get one. I ordered on and had it in a matter of a week or so (thanks Speedtoys). Could get one all day long on eBay for $30 but it was specialized one for Porsche (with it's own Webasto part number) is $550. After talking to another member not in the US (thanks Schocki) I ordered a water pump and new connecting hoses (why not) from Roger. Stock pump for a webasto is about $45. Porsche pump is $350. Difference? Bottom hose comes out at a 5 degree different angle.
Mine now functions correctly. I didn't need the fuel pump after all but figured it was 15 years old at the time so might as well replace it and have a shiny new one. That cost me $450 at the local Porsche dealer in labor and diagnosis time (they did give me a loaner car three times for a total of 9 days so all in all it was a good deal)
Fuel pump part number is :955 572 820 01

webasto fuel pump box

955 572 820 01 webasto heater fuel pump

It also should have the hose, clamp and retaining ring replaced
955 572 821 00 for the ring
n-101-981-01 clamp
955 572 513 00 hose

The circulation pump goes inside the driver side (Left) fender well. You would need to remove the front fender to get the entire assembly out. But you only need to take the fender liner out to replace the two hoses, an electrical connector and 1 torx 20 screw out to get the circulation pump out.

The circulation pump sits right below the heater

The pump originally had a pigtail that plugged into the wiring harness. My new one had just a female receptacle that the harness plugged into. No wiring change needed.
The new pump (no pic) has a receptacle right where the pigtail in this photo enters the top of the motor.

Old webasto heater pump
Here's the box it came in.

After I was all said and done, heater warms car and engine just as it should. Great option that hardly any Cayenne models had as an option. Shame too, they all should have one, it might have helped those in cold climates avoid bore scoring. Who knows.
It would be nice to have the ROW wireless remote control. Trying to figure that out now by looking at wiring harness differences.

I'm having a similar problem with the Parking Heater on my '09 TTS. When I head out in the morning and push the button on the HVAC head unit to fire it up, the display comes on for about one second showing the time it is set for but then immediately turns off (it used to stay on while the heater was running). The heater itself starts up, runs for a minute or two and then shuts itself down. From the manual I gather low battery voltage may be the culprit and will look into that (its been very, very cold the last few days), but curious if this sounds like the same issue you were chasing. Also, any idea if the heater is the same on the 955 vs. 957? From your pictures they look pretty identical but hard to know for sure.

You should check the water pump operation. Pull the fender liner out, run the heater and see if the pump runs, you'll feel it. if it doesn't work, perhaps you can take the end off and try to see if the impeller is stuck. I can't recall if it is sonically welded or not. I can get you a pump (if my source from classic still has them) if your's isn't working. don't take it to a dealer, they can't help you because they'll tell you its' the fuel pump. You can test that by starting it, lying under the driver side a tiny bit and feel the exhaust. If it gets hot, you have fuel. If you are low on fuel, it won't run. If your battery is hosed, it won't run. So make sure you have fuel and voltage.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the reply - first issue is voltage, as I'm seeing little electrical gremlins when starting after a cold night which I think are voltage related (ghost ABS/Chassis warnings that go away if I restart the car, things like that), and my battery is still charging when plugged in for 12 straight hours. Once that's done I'll move on to the Webasto unit itself. Thanks also for the direction on next steps - once I've gotten the battery issue sorted and crossed that off the list I'll see where we get to.

Based on what you are saying, your battery is very suspect. Pull it, put it on a tester and see if it is any good. Shouldn't be charging after that long unless you are doing it at less than 10 amps.

I'm more than somewhat interested in a retrofit to my 04 CTT. Is there a full parts list for a retrofit hanging out somewhere? I haven't been able to find it.

I just bought a 2008 Cayenne Turbo with this pre-heater option. The car was originally purchased in Pennsylvania, spent time in Chicago, then to Athens Georgia and now it's being shipped to me in Southern California. Obviously very little need for a pre-heater in this climate but I'll still be curious to see how this thread unfolds.

It is nearly an impossible job to retrofit it. So many things to change that you would never be able to justify the expense. It's cheaper to buy a different one with it and a spare one without it

I retrofit one in my 2004 Cayenne S with all OEM parts. About $1900CAD in parts and $5000CAD Labor. Works amazingly well, extremely happy with it. I think the OP was looking for a remote, I’m in Canada but was able to purchase from my local dealer. Not cheap $375CAD, I purchased and did the work in 2020.

Hope this helps.

Do you have the part number for the remote by chance? Did you have to put in a ROW harness or something else that standard US wouldn't have? I would still like to find a way to make remote work on this.

Hi there the remote part number was 95564624510. The shop I used made a custom harness from a Porsche harness and adapted for what we needed.

Cheers
