From Jeep to Porsche Cayenne S....
Hi! I am strongly looking at a Cayenne S (or turbo, if I hit the lotto) for my next vehicle purchase. I know either model will be leaps and bounds above my current Grand Cherokee in all aspects. The only concern I have is that I am absolutely hooked on the acceleration of my V8 Jeep---quarter mile time of 15.1 sec, and 0-60 in the low 7's. I can't find any quarter mile times on the S? Anyone know for sure??? Also, being new to the Porsche brand, what are the major aftermarket performance parts suppliers for the Cayenne? From reading the list, I know of Gembella, and Fabspeed. Any others? If I end up with the S, just looking for air intake, exhaust, and chip (if possible on a Porsche) upgrades. Looking at making the deal as soon as I find out more on the performance specs of the 2005 Grand Cherokee with the 345hp Hemi. Thanks!

As a former Grand Cherokee owner (& I loved it): If you want light to light get the hemi.
If you want very reduced body roll and a host of other things (air suspension better towing, etc.) get the pepper. But drive it first, maybe you'll get infected.......

Check and see if you can find the Car & Driver review. This site says Car & Driver got 15.4 sec for the Cayenne S.

My wife has a Jeep G.C...and LOVES it by the way. Although, the straight line acceleration of the C-S and the V8 G.C. may be very similar, DRIVING the two vehicles is about as different as light and day. The Jeep drives like a truck...which it is. But, the C-S drives like a sure footed German sports sedan...and, although the off-road chops are not quite up to a Jeeps, a C-S with air suspension is much closer to the Jeep than the Jeep is to the C-S in handling.
For the sheer driving pleasure, the C-S can't be beat...in the SUV category.

My dad's Grand Cherokee runs 12.8 at 115mph but thats probably because of the bored 318 forged pistons and crank, port, polished and planed heads mopar perf intake manifold,4bbl throttle body perf cam, headers, exhaust system and 250hp shot of nitrous... its put many Cayenne turbos to shame sure it dosnt corner as well but thats more of a state of mind kind of thing isn't it?

From the Porsche web site:
Cayenne S:
0-62 mph: 7.2 sec
Top Track Speed: 150 mph
Don't know the 1/4 mile, but the above isn't shabby.
You have to drive the pepper to fully understand it. I think its one of a kind and look forward to weekend outings when my wife let's me drive hers.

CS runs 1/4 mile in low to mid 15's, in the 90's. I drive a g. cherokee v8 everyday. the CS feels soooooo much smother. Even though they are similar in a race, the CS feels quicker because the engine doesn't feel like it's working hard. Drive it and see. Our opinion means nothing, if you don't like it.
