Lighted 957 GTS Door Sill Project
#16
This is a great thread guys; however, I'm after a little further help if possible. I've got my EL tape done and the sills back in place, but I'm clueless as to what to do or how to go about wiring them into the courtesy lighting circuit. Does anyone have any instructions for this or photos that may help?
Thanks

I spliced into the footwell light under the dashboard. Just remove the light like you were going to replace the bulb and splice into the wires- mine was a bit snug but managed to pull out enough to make some good splices.

Did you make sure it was a 12v power box that came with your EL tape? The default purchase option on mine was 6v (because you could run it with 4 AAA batteries)
Could also just be the EL tape itself, they don't seem to have any sort of quality metric that the average consumer could figure out :\

It was an ebay purchase from China so there is always a risk I suppose. They said it was a 12v box but to be fair it’s blank so I don’t know. May just bit the bullet and order some more from a different ebay seller or just somewhere else. Any recommendations?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but just wanted to say that I followed the directions on here and I was able to do the same illuminated sills on my GTS. I did it the way the factory does it and bought a white and red EL tape and overlapped them. I bought the same cheap EL tape on eBay. They work fine but you can’t tell they’re illuminated during the day. At night it’s much better but I wish It was brighter. Other than that it was a very easy project.

Looks great! EL tape just seems to come in varying qualities, brightness, and stuff that I don't think there is an easy way to ascertain what is going to be super bright or not. Almost thinking maybe an LED array with a diffuse filter would be best at this point.
