Default Alignment Options and the Result

Short Version - I went to an indy shop and they dialed everything in for $69. The ride height settings when returned to me were Normal Chassis and Regular Ride Height and i'm fine with that

After researching high and low and preparing to spend $250 at a German Indy shop I decided to go to a general shop since they had an immediate opening, where as GERMANS were a week or two out.

I had new tires put on approx 1000 miles prior, by a small shop. They had no wait. I Noticed wheel wobble at 65+. Researched wobble and people talked about ROAD FORCE balancing. I went to a tire shop and had the tires ROAD FORCE balanced. I paid 100, they said the tires weren't balanced in the first place so Road force was excessive. I received the car back, and noticed a drift to the right. More research, over the past two weeks, and decided i'd get the alignment checked...

In the end i saved 200 bucks and my car is "dialed" in. I don't know what was going to be special about the more expensive alignment.

***When i had the wobble, i contacted the Indy who did my PPI and said i wanted a Alignment and they talked me out of it. Saying it may be suspension components etc. I don't know why they didn't just take my money and do what i asked

Glad you got it dialed in.

But in defense of your Indy, a wobble would not point to an alignment as the first thing to do in fixing it. Not knowing anything else, first thing would be to suspect wheel imbalance, then road-force imbalance, then suspension. In your case, the alignment fixed the drift, not the wobble. And if I could find a mechanic that was interested in saving me from doing possibly unneeded procedures, I might actually pay someone else to work on my cars. Sounds to me like your Indy served you well.

Great deal on the alignment! I am glad it is now sorted for you. Those little shakes and twitches are always maddening to figure out.

My passenger rear toe has been out of specs forever as my GTS is mildly lowered via links and OEM toe arms are already at the maximum setting not allowing any more adjustment leading to accelerated tire wear.

Not too bad but annoying especially when I run pricey Michelins.

I just discovered this.

There seems to be finally an adjustable toe arm for our cars. I just placed an order. I will report back when I get it installed and get the alignment done.

I finally got around installing the adjustable toe arms today. Truly the easiest installation from any suspension jobs I've ever done.

NOTES: Just make sure to use a supporting jack to lift the wheel carrier to get the bolts out when removing the original arms. Putting it all back together is the best part, you can set the length you like, then just adjust (twist the black bar) so your bolts lineup and then twist it back to the proper length and re-torque everything. Great design for adjusting, looks very strong too. Highly recommend.

Tomorrow, I will go to get the alignment done.

LYKT also offers adjustable camber arms for the front and the back if needed. I might still get a set for the back if necessary. My last set of tires did not have any inner wear issues so hopefully no need, in spite of running negative camber.

Side by side

Installed in place.

I added LYKT rear adjustable Camber arms today. Good design, simple swap. Now my rear suspension is fully adjustable.

LYKT: KTDZ022-012

FITMENT: Audi 2007-2015 Q7 | Volkswagen 2004-2017 Touareg | Porsche 2003-2010 Cayenne

Alignment : Rear Camber

OEM vs LYKT

I'm replacing my suspension later this month and have been trying to figure out where to get it aligned after I do all the work. I'm new to the area and have no relationship with any local shops. Dealer is 350, euro shop 200, VW dealer 150. It was last aligned at 70k, now 138k, by an independent body's shop/auto place where I paid 105 in 2014. If I don't replace the rear eccentric bolts they are likely rust frozen preventing any changes. Still haven't decided if I'm stopping at the front suspension or also tackling rear.

On our other cayenne it had a slight shake at high speeds. Dealer said it was the like new non Porsche spec tires. They were on the car when we bought it in Nov CPO. I took it to Discount Tire and had them balanced. Cost me nothing as a few years ago I paid for the tire warranty on a different car and for some reason they've applied it to both of my cayennes! They road force balance and it's perfectly smooth now. They even let me drive the car in/out of the bay so I'm a big fan.

Sadly they very likely skipped force matching your wheels

Should anyone else read this in regard to force
You want a shop with:
https://www.hunter.com/wheel-balance...d-force-elite/
Find one here:
https://www.hunter.com/find-equipment
Several OEMs are required to have this gear at dealer level:
https://www.hunter.com/oem-partners/
Caveat ...most shops with this gear have no clue on the how and whys
My area Rep was very helpful in guiding me to a known good
https://www.hunter.com/contact/
To ascertain a shops suitability, ask what their steps are for force match / force balance ...you want both in that order
You also want the values of the corrected force match written on each tire ...so that you can put the lowest values up front (if same size)
How it is done

strip your weights and clean wheels prior
