Standard 7 way. The trailer has LED brake lights, so the Cayenne senses them as lamp out and then doesn't send signal to the pin. Tried adding resistors and etc, but the control module is very picky on voltage before throwing the code. Really unbelievable. I'm severly disappointed in this vehicle especially after all the great towing reviews I read.

I don't know if what I am about to suggest is possible, but trying it is cheaper than a new car.

I have both a 2004 CTT and a 2015 diesel and both have hitches. I recently installed the hitch on the 2015. When I installed the tow control module, I noticed that the part numbers were different from earlier generations even though the module looks the same. Bottom line is the module was updated at some point to deal with LED trailer lights. It may be possible to use a newer module in an older cayenne.

Also, if the module isn't programmed to USA it won't work correctly. New modules default to EU.

Well that is puzzling.

My Airstreams both had LED rear lights. LED all the way around, actually. Running lights were all Chip on Board LED arrays, when you looked at them.

I'm also pretty surprised. Typically the input impedance on an LED is fairly large as the diode does not require a lot of current to emit light; hence low current, hence they run cooler, hence they save electricity etc. etc. and are now the "go to" light type for most internal RV applications. The only RV we've had with incandescent was our 2009 MBZ Sprinter-based RoadTrek RS Adventurous. We drove that 22' van all over the West for five months. We're still married; but it was close.

I guess I dunno what to say about the trailer lights. If I can think of anything to help I will post back.

Just because of the LED lights? That's not really fair.

I've seen this mentioned before about the LED's, I'm sure there is a work around.

I know you already bought one adapter, but this one is mentioned in another post.

Lots of other posts about how to get LED trailer lights working on our trucks , I just did a search.

Sorry, I don't have direct experience with the prodigy p3 installation. I use the Prodigy RF. Here's a link to an excellent write up on constructing the wiring harness needed for the brake controller in a Cayenne. Might find something you missed when doing your installation.

Good luck. Hope you get it sorted out.

For sure, we towed our 24' Keystone to Banff last year. Almost ran out of fuel three times (always in Montana) and sometimes couldn't even get 91 octane. Next time I go on a long trip I'll be taking emergency fuel cans.

We just bought a 25' Airstream and will be taking it to Colorado for the week of Labor Day.

I also use the Prodigy wireless controller and Dometic Mirrors. For a hitch, I had WONDERFUL SUCCESS with the Andersen WD/Sway hitch.

Any updates on the trailer light issue? Our Airstream has LED brake lights but I haven't pulled it with the Cayenne yet. Literally picked it up with my LOWERED GMC and took it straight to the Airstream guru for repairs.

*sigh*... Tried ANOTHER LED bypass adapter on the Cayenne today, which didn't work. The Cayenne completely stops sending power to the brake lights and they don't work. This is infuriating. Can someone help me out here? I've read of several other guys towing trailers with LED lights. I'm going to check fuses again tonight, but short of a fuse being bad, what are my options?

Has anyone been able to successfully tow a trailer with LED brake lights in their 2009 Cayenne GTS?

Thanks, this is the first adapter I tried.

Have you tried adding a standard incandescent like to the trailer circuit, even if it's a dummy light to give resistance

This is making me nervous. I haven't tested the Airstream behind the Cayenne yet, and we're leaving at the end of the month.

Another trailer fail yesterday. I hate this over stuffed couch. Tried the 7way to 5 pin with middle pin removal method as outlined here and no dice. God!
