For relatively the same $$, would you buy the badge at the expense of extra power? Believe me, I'm a Porsche guy, but that would be a tough decision. I appreciate thoughts and any first hand comparisons.

From what I have been reading on this great forum and the VW forum, sounds as though I would be a little leary buying the Touareg only from the standpoint of the quality of sales/service from VW.
Looks like Porsche treats their customers better post sale..
Then again, my wife and I already have had bad experiences with VWoA, ultimately having to lemon-law a 2000 Jetta..
Both are very nice vehicles, and it really is a tough decision..

I had the same dilemma. I start out looking at the V8 T-Reg, then decided to ordered a V6, without driving one. Then drove the V6 when they finally came in and decided ultimately to buy a very lightly optioned "S". I would suggest to anyone one doing a comparison, take a look at a lightly optioned "S" and stretch if you can.

Another option is to consider an used C-S. I saw some used C-S's on my dealers lot with anywhere from 4000-8000 miles for quite a bit off. I know that I traded my C-S in for a TT.
After having extensively test driven the Infiniti FX, MB ML430, Volvo XC90, Touareg, BMW X5, Lexus GX, I gotta say there is nothing quite like the Cayenne.

Cayenne, hands down. And this from a fanatic believing in air-cooling only.. on the last track event, I only beat the C V6 by 2/10 of a second! Says probably more about me as a driver than the car, but still the Cayenne is an absolutely outstanding performance car! I shortly after the track event went to test drive the V6, and I look forward to the day I'll have one.
And parked beside a vee-doubleyou .... Cayenne wins (flame-suit on).

I was seriously considering the V8 touareg until I found out that Porsche was coming out with the V6. The other forums I was reading seemed to report more problems with the touareg and I was not as impressed by it compared to the Cayenne. The base Cayenne is still not a cheap vehicle. I am happy with the Cayenne, it has adequate power for my wife. I wish I had an S, but did not want to make the stretch for the extra 12K. The ride is so much better in the P car and the interior is mutch sportier. The touareg is good looking from the front, but the backside is terrible IMO. The bottom line is the Cayenne is a Porsche.
Look at the competition, it stands alone as the best in its class.

I recently traded in a T-reg V8 for a C-TT. I can tell you that the T-reg standard suspension has a much better ride than the Cayenne standard suspension.
The interior of the (V8) T-reg is also finished nicer than the standard C and has some features that are standard like TPM, flashers on side mirrors, luggage rack and heated front seats. T-reg also has longer PT warranty
Hey, the "P" does add some value. As mentioned in other thread(s), local dealer is a major factor. Given your choices, I would go with the vehicle which will be better supported.

Been debating this myself. Speced out both and the Cayenne is 15K more- I've driven Porsches (and VW's for that matter) for 30+ years and am a confimed P-car nut, but it's a damned truck not a sports car I'm buying! When I want to really have fun I'll take out the GT3! The Cayenne is nice but with the money I'll save I think I'll get a nice aluminum trailer!!

JGriff,
The V6 is very nice and capable, but wait until you try the V8. And, God forbid you try the TT. I got sucked into the TT and I'm still trying to explain the the wife on why I traded in a C-S 4 months and 4000 miles later for a TT...

So I bought an S and I bought a better boat. I guess I'm full of it (being practical). I need to be saved from myself.
Make sure you find a good servicing dealer, if you go Treg. Good luck.

What would I get the next time.
It's going to be tough going back to cheerleaders, after I've been dating a **** queen...
