Also, just get bigger ballast bags and some surf plates for the sides if you are dragging around all that lead for a surf wake.

I'll see how the wave is after upgrading the surf system. Ive got the TAPS 3 plates in a box at home just waiting for it to get installed. The Turbo Cayenne I was looking at sold pretty quick. I may wait a couple weeks to see if another one pops up at a reasonable price in my area.

agree. The power discussion is so irrelevant unless you are talking long mountainous climbs....and even then it’s more worry for the transmission. It’s much more about wheel base and platform. I am happy with how my 2006 S (I think the +500 lbs of the 955 is s benfit for this application). tows a Spec miata but every pick up I have towed with has been far superior to my Ceyenne.

Starting in Aug '16, we towed a 6,500 lb Airstream all over the west visiting the National parks. Then in Feb '17, we towed the Airstream down the Baja penensula to Cabo, turned around and headed north up the coast and then into Canada to visit Banff and Jasper. Then up the Alaska highway thru the Yukon and into Alaska. Five weeks exploring and then back down the Marine Highway. Finally back to the Bay Area in Aug '17. Our '06 CS was bone stock and towed like a champ including up and over plenty of mountains.

The only issue is that the sticker limits the tongue weight to 8% of the capacity of 7,716 lbs (3,500 kg) or 617 lbs. It is unsafe to tow at such a low tongue weight due to the risk of sway and a common recommendation is 12%. YMMV. Be safe.

Here's our Cayenne and Airstream in Homer, Alaska.

That is awesome! I wish ours was an Airstream! What model is it? Our 24'Keystone weighed in a 6k full of water with a generator on the tongue. The Anderson hitch made pulling it SO easy. ZERO sway.

Curious what kind of mileage your S got. Our 957 turbo averaged 8.4mpg to Banff and back (about 4600miles going the speed limit most of the time.)
