Default Remote Control Failure

My remote failed this morning, came out of an appt in the pouring rain and it would not unlock. Lights on the key still work so I guess its transmitting.

Fortunately after about 15 minutes I remembered that it had a key hole.

Anyone else had remote control failure ? (not entry and drive)

Yes, it happened once, I had to use the key to get in and then it either reset or something else....no problems since.

Same here.

Must have done something else, because when I opened the car door with the key, I got in and the alarm went off. I hit the Panic button on the remote and it went off. Maybe I hit it when inserting the key?

The range seems very poor and sometimes the car will not unlock on the first button press on the remote. Just sort of gotten used to it. Compared to the Cardan shaft, this is low on the list.

Anyone know of any TSB's for this yet? Heard that there was one on the Treg and it since been resolved.

same problem. I changed the battery and the remote still occasionally fails. Since the problem is intermittent the dealer was no help because they could not replicate the problem. Like you it always seems to happen in the rain....

It failed on me too! I think it may have been due to puting my key in the same pocket that my active cell phone was in. The key light would flutter - i.e., it was not a solid light when pressing it. I had to unlock it with the key and then start the car to stop the alarm. The next morning it had reset itself.

I've also noticed on two occasions that when I turn off the car and my kids open the back passenger doors to get out, the alarm will sound and I just silence it by pressing the open button. :confussed:

I too have to press the button several times in order to get the darn thiing to work sometimes! I too share your grief over these issues and wish that there is some future TSB to fix this annoying problem.

I'm with all of you on this one! Mine works to open about 80% of the time, mostly after 1 click. I have tried all sorts of locations. It hardly ever works from the front, and mostly only when close to the door handle.

Locking is a different story. Seems that this is easier from all locations around the vehicle.

I'm only in my 2nd month w/ the car. I suspect that there is some screwy Porsche engineered method for doing this right! I've yet to find it and each opening/closing is a little adventure!

Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks!

Craig

While sitting here anticipating the acquisition of my new CT, I was thinking about this very issue...

You know, there are numerous after-market keyless entry systems available at fairly modest cost. Search around on google. I wonder if one of these units could be installed in the Cayenne, without causing interference to its related systems.

Most of these units offer 200-300 foot range, and at least one even boasts of 800-1000 ft range! Could be the answer to the problem. Of course, with good, professional installation, you might be looking at $500 or more.

Just a thought...

same thing has happened to me as well. the green light will go off but no response from the car. I figure maybe the battery is low or something interferes with the signal. I know that this is a big issue with the new 7 series key...

I was booked to take it in for the dealer to work on, but just got this from the service manager

"Hey Mike,
Instead of coming in try this...get in vehicle, turn on ign for 5
seconds w/o starting or touching anything else. Turn off the ign & get
out & close door. Try the remote & it should work for you.

Jerry"

It worked !

Mudman2,

Thanks. Sounds like a reset. I'll try it tomorrow morning!

Mudman2,

The 'reset' seems to work. Wonder how often I'll have to do it!

Thanks,

Craig

With each post on each thread in the P!g pen, I lose more and more faith, and it gets me farther and farther away from potential ownership.

You guys are either a brave bunch or just gluttons.
